Prior to going, I told my husband that the Fort would be a one-and-done for us. We're educators, and those campsite costs hurt the pocketbook.
I've got to say, we LOVED it. I told him when we left that I would want to stay again if we can afford it next time we go to Disney. He agreed.

We were in site #506 for ten days. Everyone says you NEED a golf cart, but we managed fine without one. It took less than 15 minutes to walk from our site to the marina. We found the bus transportation to be good. We rarely waited longer than five minutes.
We ate at Trails End for breakfast. It was just okay. I don't understand why everyone carries on about it.
It was nice to sit in a rocker at Crockett's Tavern, however.

The campfire singalong was nice. The kids really enjoyed it.

We enjoyed the wildlife. We saw turkeys, deer, rabbits, and birds. We wondered why we only saw does and no bucks. The cast member we asked evaded the question.

Our loop was quiet and pleasant.
We didn't want to leave.

Personally I don't waste money on TE for breakfast, I agree, nothing special. Dinner however, that's a totally different story for me.

Glad you had a good experience.

We don't use a golf cart, either. We rented one once, years ago, so the kids could get the experience, but we are happy walking.

Did you bring a camper with you, a tent, rent a cabin?

Our average trip is usually 14 days, never have rented a cart, just walked or rode the buses. Last year, we were with the DS and family and the transportation was fine. Never had breakfast at TE, however, we agree with tiggerdad, we really like dinner. Glad you had a good time!

Ahhhhhhhhh, Fort Life. Riding bikes or walking is just fine. Dinner at TE always a treat. Rockin' the rockers on the porch, people watching, kicking back chilling and sipping. Surprising everyone with your singing skills at Chip and Dales. Watching and chasing the critters that wander thru your campsite. Boat rides at night watching the lights of DW shimmer on the lake, fireworks in the sky, cool breeze in your face. Doesn't get any better than that. Your hooked, MudQueen22. Hope your next visit is just as magical.

Glad to hear you had a good time. Like so many other things a gold cart being a necessity is highly personal and opinions vary widely. As far as Trails end goes, I hate to be one of those people that says things used to be better "back in the day" But........ it used to be better back in the day. I think the food quality has gone down and the price has gone up. We used to go at least once every trip, not anymore.

Glad to hear you have joined the addicted to the Fort group, lol. You most likely did see some bucks, but right now they do not have antlers as they drop them after the rut and mating season is over. Come back between late Sept thru late March and you will see antlered bucks.

We love Fort Wilderness too!!!

Since you have some time before your next trip, start doing shopkicks for Disney cards! As you accrue them, combine them on www.disneygiftcards.com
I also do swagbucks but that is a lot more effort. I "earn" Walmart cards on swagbucks and order $75 at a time on Sams online with the Walmart cards. $75 worth is $71.98 on Sams.

I also donate plasma until I make enough to pay for tickets. But, I know, that is not for everyone.

But....shopkicks is really easy and I use it for exercise (kind of! ha). You can learn more on the Budget board. If your husband goes along with you to scan sometimes he can earn Disney cards too. Then combine all of them!

We can afford Disney most of the time but we have 3 in college right now... Plus, it feels good to figure out how to pay for stuff without coming out of the good ole bank account!

We love the 500 loop! It's close to the Settlement and not too far from the pool. We don't always rent a golf cart. Definitely a nice splurge but I've had to admit to DH that it's not worth the $$ for the full trip. We were there earlier this month for 12 nights & only rented it the first few days over the 4th. We used our bikes the rest of the time and that worked out just fine.

We haven't dined at TE yet, but have had takeout from P & J's. It was pretty good, but nothing too thrilling.

FW is the only way I can get my husband to stay "inside the bubble". We love how quiet the Fort is and yet we are still in the middle of Disney. You can't beat having a dedicated boat to scoot across to MK, either!

TE is a crap shoot, 1 year the breakfast was tater-tots, under cooked bacon, runny scrambled eggs and not good. Last year it was fantastic, corned beef hash, spam scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, went back for seconds.

I am a fan of the Trails End breakfast on the weekend and holiday periods when they serve up the "brunch" . It has breakfast food and a selection of the dinner food including the fried chicken, bread pudding, and other supper food. It's a good price for a buffet that I can pay for once and be my main/only meal of the day.

It's a very comfortable place for me.

We love the TE breakfast. It's 'down home' good food, and I usually have the pecan sticky buns for half my meal - Yum-meeee!! 😋

On the other hand, we also love the classier breakfast buffet at The Wave. We always do both.
