TEN BUCKS A WEEK!

Just a flyer tip for you.. If you go to SmartCanucks and check their flyers forum, there are posters that get flyers early and scan them. Usually by Tuesday you can see NoFrills, Food Basics, RCSS and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Thanks...I have a guy on facebook that obviously does something like this because he posts all the best deals...that's how I knew about some of the stuff but seeing the whole flyer early would be VERY helpful for me!

Well...I found out today that my Flipp app did not have the Loblaws flyer in it this week for some reason, so when I did a search for butter and nothing came up under $3...I thought it was legit. I can't remember how I found out that butter was on sale at Loblaws ($2.99) but it was and so was brick cheese ($3.99) ...two things I was in desperate need of!! I ran over there today and got six pounds of butter and three bricks of cheese (mozza, old and marble), so all is right in my kitchen right now. :thumbsup2

Refried beans I can do pretty well in the crock pot, however I buy pork and beans by the case from Costco- we really like the originals with sausages etc and I like to put a can in chili- I just haven't been able to replicate either.

So was just downstairs in my "pantry" area, grabbing cans for chili- wow I haven't looked at it in detail for a while! Whoops! I'm way up on things like cereal and veg and pasta, but out (totally out!) of pasta sauce (I have half a flat of canned tomatoes so can make, but like to have a few hard for quick meals), as well as canned black beans and kidney beans! Oops!
Time to get more on top of what's down there. Everything else looked pretty good.
Did the same in the deep freezer and look ok there thankfully

What is old cheese? I love cheese but don't know what kind that would be.

I can't get the pic to upload, but Kraft calls it old/fort (fort is French for strong) so I'm not crazy...that's the actual "flavour"! :rotfl:
I was going to say that. There's a lot of brands here that do. I wonder if it's a Canadian thing?

My TEN BUCKS haul for today:

2 cans refried beans $2.98
2 cans black olives $1.76
3 cans coconut milk $2.64
3 cans diced tomatoes $2.64

TOTAL of $10.02 for 10 items!

I had to cover 5 shopping weeks with the grocery money this month and rather than increase the food budget, I just make one week a "milk and produce only" week and give myself a budget of $40. This coming Friday is the week I have chosen for just those basics, so I will not have a TEN BUCKS stock up on Friday. I still have to wait and see what will be on special in the flyers, but I might be able to get a couple of things for my food storage, as I really only need $32 (ish) dollars for the basics. Stay tuned on that one!

DH has been eating me out of house and home since he went off his low carb diet. Double, triple...even QUADRUPLE serving sizes of nearly everything in the house, so my peanut butter, cereal, snacks and frozen goods have taken a real beating.

He finally decided to go back to low carb (to my everlasting relief...who would have thought??) and I'm doing it for a little bit with him. I am not a huge meat eater, so it's a bit of a challenge for me...but this is day two and we plan to take Fridays and Saturdays off, so I think I can stick it out for at least two to three weeks. I've been stalled with the weight loss, so I was hoping this would give me a little jump start and get the ball rolling again!

not a food item-but a necessity in our home that I feel I got a good deal on.

cat litter-normaly the best price I can get is (with tax) a 30 pound container for $15.22. I saw a commercial on tv and realized the on-line company I buy the wet cat food from also sells litter so I hopped on-line to see what their prices were like. BINGO-they are having a sale. the identical brand-40 pound containers for $10.86 (no sales tax charged) and free shipping for orders totaling $50.

200 pounds is on it's way (and the ups guy can just set it in the garage where we store it so no aching backs for us). I figured it out-51 cents a pound vs. 27 cents a pound. that's a savings I like!

Wow! I have been MIA for a bit. Not totally my fault as my computer died last week and I had to make do with a little mini netbook for a bit which was pretty annoying. DH has kindly loaned me his Mac and I'm all set up now...so things are getting back to normal.

Last week I stocked up on chicken legs (on for $0.97 a lb--my bag had a little over 4 pounds) and cereal (2 family size boxes of Honeycombs for $3.47 each). So it was $11.04 total.

DH plans on making Tandoori chicken with the legs for lunches next week. LOL So, it's a good thing bags of frozen, boneless, skinless chicken breasts are on sale this week at FreshCo. I will be getting some of those when I shop on Monday. I'm still compiling my list otherwise.

I'm going to go back to the 3 month challenge again, I think. No touching the downstairs stuff for three months so the stockpile builds and a dedicated TEN BUCKS budget that will help accomplish this.

My freezer is only about half full now (all the turkeys are gone) so I want to fill that up again and get the holes in my downstairs pantry shelves filled. My other experiment sort of failed...I was able to stock up on some stuff at rock bottom prices which was good...but then I started running out of money and I couldn't replenish everything and some stuff started running out. That plus the overeating DH made for some serious depletion. He's back on track and I'm going to revert back to what was working before as well.

I'm also toying with the idea of having one big shop and one little shop for each two week period. The big shop would get the bulk of the money for 14 days worth of meals and snacks and then the following week I would just pick up produce, milk and any other misc items we needed or that were on sale. I'm still working this one out though.

We will be heading to my sister's house on July 8th to watch her kids for 12 nights while she and her DH are on a Mediterranean cruise. So I won't be shopping for my house during that time frame. So I can't really delve into this officially until I get back...but I will have something to post on Monday.

You're doing great!! While you're at your sisters is she leaving you money for groceries, or will you shop for your family while you're there?

It's so sweet of you to help make their vacation possible!!!

Last time we did this she stocked the house with groceries and left us some money for shopping. It will likely be the same again this time.

That's super nice of you! Good cousin tine as well! Should be some savings to be had as you mentioned.

Okay, so I did a big shop today that should cover us from today (June 27th) right through until the 8th of July when we head to my sister's house. I kept back $10 in case we run out of milk or salad stuff, so I can run out for that next Monday...but otherwise, we're eating what we've got in the house.

Good visit with the Dads this weekend and I was able to chat with my sister a bit about what to expect during the trip. I showed her my meal plan for the days at her house and she told me she would ensure that the house had all necessary ingredients. She is also going to leave us some money and insisted on covering our take out pizza for that first night (which we were not expecting).

I have $100 "in reserve" for any food needed for the time we are at her place, but am hoping to be able to put it towards our vacation(s). It will be there if I need it though, and that's reassuring.

ANYWAY...

I spent $144.42 of a $150 budget and had every intention of capturing my successes on film (so to speak!). However, I was annoyed to find out that DD took MY camera to school today, so I couldn't take any pics after all.

My shopping approach this time was to ensure I got everything I needed for the meal plan and then I used all the remaining money to get stock up stuff.

FreshCo

$2 a lb for frozen boneless, skinless chicken breasts --I got 3 bags (plus one to use this week) $13.23
$2 a box for cereal--I got 3 (one honey nut cheerios, one golden grahams and one cocoa puffs) $6

No Frills

2 jars of salsa $3.94
8 lbs of pasta $3.88
4 cans of pasta sauce $3.88
2 cans refried beans $2.98
2 cans diced toms $1.76

Total spent $35.67

**I had every intention of getting a 2 kg bag (4 lbs) of red lentils for $3.99 but I missed getting them when I went down that aisle and forgot to hook back around for them before I hit the checkout. I've put that on the list for next time!

Yay!! And that was great that you were able to give her a Kenny to shop by!! That will make it much easier for her I bet!

You grocery shopping sounds like you got some great buys! I hope it works out that you can save the $100 for your trip!!!
