Does anybody out there have one? We really need a new mattress and I would love to not get thrown across the room when my husband flops around! I figure if I could jump on it and not spill some red wine, maybe I won't notice what a restless sleeper my dh is. Do you like it? Where did you purchase yours?

We have a sleep number, with individual air chambers, and I don't feel him toss and turn, or get up. We love it, great bed.

Us too, and we also love our sleep number! My dh is a large size man while I am a lot smaller and I don't even know when he gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.

The main reason we bought this mattress instead of the Tempur-pedic was due to my sister in law not liking hers because the memory foam started to smell funny.

I also have read where the foam can make you hot. It holds in the heat from your body. I don't know, thats just what I have heard.

My parents got one a year ago. It was great in the beginning. Now they hate it. Said they would return it if they could.

We went with the foam mattress (Dormia) and they are fine for a year or so and then they start losing their memory and sag. We went through several free replacements before giving up and buying the Sleep Number.

The Sleep Number is great! If you want it softer or firmer any given night all you have to do is adjust it to what feels good at the moment. Each side has its own control. I recommend the Sleep Number over any of the foam mattresses 10-1.

Do tons of research. We found that the Tempur beds can have support issues in the long run. And "sleep number" beds have leaking issues in the long run. We tested many a mattress and found one that we were both comfortable on. It has the tempur foam and 3 other types of foams for anti-sag. It also has supportive foam wrapped horizontally around the perimeter so you don't get the sag factor when sitting on the edge. After having it 1 1/2 years I still don't wake when dh get's up. And I am an uber-light sleeper.

I'm interested in everyone's responses too.

We were thinking about getting one.
We went with tempurpedic pillows first to see how we'd like them.
Verdict: not so much for me, DH is fine with his, but much prefers that I don't use mine anymore. ;)

If I woke up in the night or when I got up in the morning the pillow felt really compressed and hard. I'd have to fluff it (translate: beat the darn thing silly)
Not sure how I'd manage that with the mattress.

I think DH was a bit frightened with the pillow beating routine. I'm thinking mattress beating would be too much.

We purchased a tempurPedic king size mattress two years ago and wouldn't trade it for anything! It's been a great bed. DH adjusted immediately to it, it took me about 4-6 weeks though to get used to it. It's held up very well and has a 20 year warranty anyway.

DH rarely woke up when I had to get up to "use the facilities" 4-5 times a night when I was pregnant. In the two to three years before we got the TempurPedic, I woke up two or three times a night for whatever reason. After a month or two on the new mattress, I rarely woke up during the night until I was pregnant.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I think that I am maybe even a little less sure than before :confused3 . I have a neighbor that has a sleep number bed in her garage that she used for 3 weeks and then her dh made her get it out because he said it was soooo hot. I guess some have heard the same about the tempu. Have any of you felt that with the sleep #?

I guess it's a good thing that I can't afford to buy one till after our Sept. trip, cause I don't have a clue what to get. I do know for sure that it is going to be a king though. We started with a double, went to a queen and now I am insisting on a king. We are either getting bigger or liking each other less!

We looked at the memory foam and decided against it due to how hot they sleep and because I do not like the way they feel. I've had the memory foam pillows (not a cheapy brand) and cannot stand it. I used it for a few months before I tossed it in the closet.

I've been through lots of bedding and pillows with all my back/neck trouble. I now feel like I have the perfect combination with my sleep number bed as well as my latex foam pillow :teeth:

We've had two different sleep number beds... we only got a bigger one since my hubby was kicking me out of hte bed (he is a spead eagle type) so I got tired of it and went for a king ;) Neither of them have slept hot. I have heard that the top level will sleep a bit more hot due to the foam they have, but ours sleeps perfectly fine and not hot at all. I still use four blankets at night when I sleep :teeth:

My dad uses our old sleep number bed and he has had great luck. No leaking in either one (not an issue in all brands, but not all brands of air beds are the same I have discovered).

I'd recomment Select Comfort to anyone. Comforaire is the next brand to look at, though the y had foam that broke down over time as well and were much harder for us to find.

Any other brand of air beds, I wouldn't even bother looking at. Dormia has some, but I have no clue about the quality. The people in the sales stores were rude to us, so I didn't even bother with them after a while.

Good luck with the bed hunt. I know several friends who have the memory foam and love them! I just know they aren't for everyone.

With anything like this, I'd suggest doing your research. Not all brands of these "specialty beds" are the same or equal in how they hold up :)

A point I forgot to mention about both beds... the foam cushion can hold heat as the night goes by and that can make you feel uncomfortably warm or even hot. That can be an issue with some Sleep Number beds, too, if you get a model with the pillow topper, which is made of the same foam the other mattresses are made of. We opted not to get the pillow topper model and haven't had a problem.

I made my own temperpedic bed. I bought the base foam from jcpenny's website and the memory foam from a supplier on ebay. I did this since I had read the problems with temperpedic's foam lossing its responsiveness. If my memory does give out (which it will do) I will just replace the top layer (about $50). The whole bed (including frame & foundation) cost me $600.00. It doesn't seem warm to my husband and I.

Good luck!
Melissa
