We are currently saving for oct 2015 trip, it will be our 10 year wedding anniversary and DD will be 7 (8 in the Dec).....we have been saving like mad, and it looks likely that we "may" have got all the money together, including for passes and spends by this December!!!! :woohoo:

Now, DH is saying we should still wait till oct 2015, as it will be a special occasion and DD will enjoy it more being a little older/taller for rides.....but i'm getting a bit excited now.

I kind of agree, but life is so short and you never know whats around the corner.

Should I work on DH to go in 2014, i've got butterflies thinking about being able to go earlier.

What would you do?

I'm very much of the "life's too short" opinion.

If you have the money - enjoy it!! You never know when the time will come that you can't afford it, so I say live for the moment and book next year.

I'm a bad influence though - we've gone two years in a row based on that theory.

Ps - my six year olds were a great age for it when we went. They were 44" so could ride everything they wanted.

You know, we are not promised tomorrow... so if you can go earlier than planned, it will still be as special as it would if you were to wait. If you will still be OK money-wise to go next year, I say DO IT! Your kid is definitely old enough to enjoy it! Have fun and have a magical day! :)

I agree, if you have the money go earlier. Who knows what's in store for any of us. Then maybe when you come back, you can start saving for 2015.........!!!!!

If you've got the money already what are you waiting for BOOK, BOOK, BOOK :yay:

I'm also in the book for 2014 camp if you can do it financially. My only against comment would be if you REALLY want to be in WDW for your 10 wedding anniversary would you be able to afford to go 2 years running or would you be happy going or doing something else ?

Another idea is to book a cheaper trip to DLP for 2014 (early booking offers giving 2 nights and days free for up to Summer 14 at the min) so that you have a relatively cheap Disney fix and then have a big blow out trip to WDW for your big anniversary.

Normally I'd say go a year early and then start saving for the next trip but your DH seems to want to celebrate your 10th Anniversary at WDW.

Is he the type of person that would be planning some sort of surprise celebration - would you be messing that up? Or does he just want to be somewhere special on that day?

I can see both sides of the argument but I guess a good question to ask is how long did it take you to get the money together? My thought would be if you managed to save in less time than you anticipated, is it feasible or possible that you could do both? If you have the money now, to go in 2014, then you have between now and 2015 to save for an anniversary trip.

There is nothing quite like having spending a special celebration at WDW so I see your your DH's point. I'm not so sure that it will make any difference with your DD because for the most part, whether she is 8 or 9 she will probably have the same experience because our DD is 9 and she has been at age 4, 8 and 9.

On the flip side, if I had the funds to go in 2014 now, I'd want to go!! The question is could you realistically do both given that you've managed to save much faster than you thought?

I'm in that camp too. I'm taking dgd on her 3rd trip to WDW this year and she is turning 3. I just added an extra day to our upcoming trip to take her to Seaworld. I shop for an airfare deal, room offer etc. and when I find one or more I "justify" the next trip to DH. I've "justified" numerous vacations over our 32 year marriage and neither of us have ever regretted any of them.

Thanks for all your responses. We have taken a very long time to save for this as DH was out of working being full time dad, so it's been 6 yrs since our last trip. We wouldn't be able to go 2014 and also 2015.....so it would be mean probably doing nothing special for our 10yr anniversary. Not sure if DH has any surprises lined up but I guess I would also like us to celebrate 10 yrs in Dis. DH reasoning is that we can keep saving and then once been in 2015 we've got some already in the pot for the next trip which would hopefully be 2017 as he is now working, I guess I'm just getting very excited that we have done really well at saving before target. Also it will be nice to book when the time comes for 2015 and know that we have all the money saved and maybe able to buy some extras like photopass and character meals :thumbsup2

I wouldn't like to put off the Magic for too long especially if we already had the savings for a 2014 holiday, you never know what life may bring or what the prices might be in 2015 and beyond.

Are you planning a Disney resort with free dinning and if so have you thought and planned for future escalating costs? And if not then why not use the extra time and continue saving like crazy for an on-site package.

And if you are planning an on-site package bear in mind the following; Disney are currently quoting in their T&C's "Bookings calculated using exchange rates on 14 March 2012 (at a rate of £1/$1.58).

With the strengthening dollar (now £1/$1.48) could the exchange rate for 2015-2016 push the price up and beyond your budget and yes, it could also go the other way and be £1/$1.68?

Free dining in 2014 is included, but can that be guaranteed in 2015 and beyond?

Looking back at the escalating cost: In 2010 a 1-bed at OKW for 15-nights in October for two adults with free dining and two 14-day Ultimate tickets cost £2,730. (free dining was then worth £809.70)

The same booking and dates in 2014 would cost £3,781.00 with the free dining worth £1,229.70.

Over those 4-years the total holiday cost has increased on average by about 8.5% year-on-year, while dining costs has increased by about 11% each year.

Okay dinning has been free for four or so years but who could say it will be free in 2015-2016 and for the dates you want, it might be that if the economy keeps steadily picking up then Disney might decide to reduce the period of free dining?

Anyway happy planning and saving......

We went in 2012 and I was desperate to go back when funds allowed. I decided to go back in August 2016 and then realised we could save more than I had expected, so brought it forward by a year.:thumbsup2 Our ticker is still agonisingly long by Dis standards but it feels good knowing that we WILL be going back. My private countdown is until we can BOOK rather than when we can go lol. 6 months and we can book.:cool1:

So my vote is bring it forward...if you can get a good deal.

i would keep saving for 2015 and just spend more , book a spa , lots of delux dining etc and have a super special trip

yeah Bex7583, that's what I think we will be doing, and "maybe" upgrade our accommodation :goodvibes
