Telle me about the Candy Lady in Japan

There is a website with the times she will be out but I do not remember it. We walked up last year as it was starting and she was great. She made my DD 9 months old at the time a bird. She is amazing !

Oh My Gosh! She is really great! we've been there in the crowd several times and she amazes me and the family. She sets up a small box stand in front of the Japan shop where she makes birds and animals out of a taffy kind of candy...very soft and pliable while she works on it but it gets solid after a while. She made a White Egret and a Pink Flamingo for us last time! they were fantastic! we kept them for a couple of years but they fell apart. We hope to see her this time...I can't remember if it cost anything or not and she picks people randomy out of the crowd. A MUST do if you have time!

We had been trying to see her for the longest time and finally got our chance in Feb. It is free. I think her first show was at 12:55 and we got there about 10 minutes early. No one else was there yet. After a few minutes, a boy and his parents came up and then another couple. Miyuki came from across Japan so she saw woh was there waiting for her. After she arrived, the crowd came. But, she made candy for the boy, the couple and all three of my kids. She said she would make them for the people who got there early and waited for her. I thought that was nice. I was kinda worried one kid would get one and the others wouldn't thus leading to a fight. My kids got a swan, a giraffe and a dragon - I think the dragon was the neatest. DS9 said this was the highlight of his birthday trip and definitely wants to see her again when we go back, it only takes her a minute to make the candy. It really is amazing. she will be on the EPCOT schedule so make sure you get to see her.
Also, if you go into the store after she gives you the candy, they will give you a box to put it in. They were very nice and wrapped it in tissue paper./ They would have never made it out of the park in one piece without the box.

We're planning on seeing Miyuki in May. I heard it was really neat, but after hearing the last post, now I am really excited! :cool1:

Yes, she is great! We saw her a couple weeks ago and she made a hedgehog for me. It's free and the work is amazing. I didn't have the heart to eat it, so it sits in it's cellophane bag in a vase in my house. :teeth:

I think your best bet if you want your kid to get a candy animal is to be there before she starts. One time we watched the crowd and were not picked. The next time we were there before she started and were picked. Don't bug her and scream "me next". Think ahead of time about what you would want. We got a Penguin and an Octopus.

We just returned with two suckers from Miyuki. We had lunch at Teppanyaki and walked out about 2:05 and down to her stand for her 2:15 show. We were the second people there. My ds5 got her second piece ..a dragon and my ds 9 got one of her last ones..an eagle. They were beaming..... There was a boy who yelled out "I want an panda" and she said "No..you must wait like the others." We stood on the right side of her as she worked. SHe was amazing. They are VERY fragile. They made it through the park, but not the car trip home. :sad2: I have the pictures of her making each one for the kids..at least.

Steve Soares had this info about Miyuki on his website:

Sunday-Wednesday at 12:55, 2:15, 4:15, 5:05, 6:15 & 6:55pm
Thursday at 1:15, 2:15, 4:15, 5:05, 6:15 & 6:55pm
Length of show: 20 minutes

We had been to Disney so many times and had no idea about Miyuki. We finally got to see her our last trip. She will make ANY animal you can think of. She pretty much gets a mental note of who's there and which order she is going to go in with making them for the kids so they need to be patient.

Here she is working:

And here are my girls candy:

We were there for her show, and my kids didn't get picked, but she looked at my daugther and told her to come to the next show and she would pick her. So, we waited around. My older daughter got a pig (she asked for it.) Younger daughter got an elephant. The second we walked away our younger dd wanted to eat hers. So, she did, and it wasn't good. But, definitely worth seeing. Just be the first ones there.

Are they edible? Are different colors, different flavors?
Has anyone ever ate theirs?

My daughters ate some of theirs, and they just didn't care for them. They are really soft, taffy like when she is making them, and they turn really hard. There are different colors, but she just adds coloring to it, so I don't think the flavor is any different.

This is the first time I have heard of her. We will be sureto check her out, thanks!

Hi all!

We became huge Miyuki fans after our last trip :lovestruc
She describes her actions as she works and is really fun and entertaining.

I found some information about Miyuki's impressive training and the history of Japanese candy artistry at http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/Miyuki.htm

It says that there are currently only 15 candy artists in Japan and that "Miyuki is distinguished to be the first and only woman to receive training as a candy artist in Japan". Amazing!

And no wonder the candy tastes different, it says it's made of rice dough.

Not sure if this has been answered yet, but does she pick any older kids? My girls are 14 and 16 and would love to get one made.

I've seen her pick all ages including teens and grandmothers. Note that she selects the lucky ones and sometimes it is NOT who is there first. When another familiy complained that their daughter had been waiting 45 minutes for her, she said, "I pick, it's my show." She did offer to pick that girl at her next show if she waited, but the family stomped off. It's great to watch whether you are picked or not. The other magic at Epcot is in the other live shows. Our favorite live shows are: Off-Kilter, Matzuriza, Miyuki, American Vybe (not sure they are still there), statue act (was cancelled - bummer), Orisi Risi, Dragon Legend Acrobats and Krystos. If you wander aimlessly and don't catch shows or interact with international CMs I could easily understand how someone wouldn't "get" Epcot. We also spend a few hours in Innoventions. Epcot doesn't bombard you with scintillation, but beckons you to interact. Hope this helps.

I can't believe this has existed so long and I never knew about it until just now. Just another example of why I love this board. We will definately try to see her when we are there. MY DS would love it (so would my DH and myself as well. I absolutely agree that it is these kinds of things that make EPCOT such a special place which has its own special magic.
