Tell somebody?

Anybody ever start a weightloss program without telling anybody they see regularly in the "real world"? I've tried to lose weight before and failed, so this time, I'm thinking about not telling anybody I see on any kind of regular basis. At least until I get really rolling in my program. Sound like a good idea?

I re started for the umpteenth time. I have only told a few of my closest friends that I know are very supportive. Everyone else will have to wait (weight) and see.

I don't think that there is anything wrong with keeping it to yourself. Whenever my mom went on a diet she never told anyone. She felt she was doing it for her and no one else so therefore no need to share it. If anyone noticed then she would say something.

Good luck to you! :thumbsup2

I didn't tell anyone until I hit the 25 pounds off mark. I have failed before once I hit that point and I didn't want to tell people and then have that happen again. Once I made it and surpassed it I told a few people because I wanted to see if people noticed and I don't like "advertising" what I'm doing, especially at work since I work with eating disorder specialists because they tend to look at what you are eating.

I once told a friend that she looked like she lost a few pounds and she told me it was her new bras!!! Who'da thunk??!! :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I did that, too. :woohoo: You'd be shocked how much weight you can look like you lost when you switch from a badly fitting bra to a good one!

Also, thanks all for your feedback. I've told a couple of people here, but not many at all. I know I shouldn't care what other people think, but I do, and I'd feel awful if I told everybody that I'm losing weight, only to not follow through.

I've told everyone at work because we eat and snack together and it was pretty obvious to everyone. No one really remarks about any of it, which is a relief.

I have a friend in another state who likes to compete at weight loss, so I haven't said a word to her-- can't wait until I see her this summer!

This time around for me I've been really honest about it with everyone and myself. When I've made attempts in the past I felt like if I admitted to someone I was trying to lose weight, I was also admitting I was overweight and I didn't want to deal with that. Of course I don't go around with a banner, announcing it to the world but if the topic comes up I share. I keep track of exercise minutes on my calendar at work to keep me motivated during the day and plenty of people have asked. I'm actually proud to tell them I'm exercising and eating healthy. I also find that telling people keeps me accountable and keeps me motivated to tell them when I've lost another 2 or 10 lbs.

I haven't told too many people either except my close friends and my family. I bought a beautiful Easter dress that's going to make it obvious that I've lost weight and b/c its curvy. I better get exercising or else my parenthasis won't go away.

I'm only telling the people here on this board. I too have started and failed too many times to count that I don't think people in the "real world" will take me seriously. Plus DH always says he wants to be supportive but he gives in too easily when I say I want pizza or fast food so it really isn't helpful. I am just restarting here on WISH and I know I'll find more support here than anywhere else!
