Tell me what's so great about Le Cellier

The food and atmosphere are just great. When we dined there last month my steak was done to perfection. Along with the mushrooms and asparagus I ordered as sides it was a fabulus meal. There cheese soup and pretzel breadsticks are great also. If you do not have an ADR for here you will never get in for dinner most times of the year.

The mushroom filet mignon was the best steak I have ever had -- and I love steak! I would go there again just for that.

How are portion sizes?

We are trying to save 1 TS credit a night to use at HoopDeeDoo and we wondered if the portions are large enough for two people to share one meal.

The salad with Pecan Shallot Vinegraitte Dressing with sliced steak (or get the salad with a side salad and the chicken).....yum...now I am CRAVING it!!!

I posted this response on another thread, but I'm going to repeat myself.

We were there for the first time last week for lunch. It was fine. I thought the atmosphere was very boring. Our food was fine - nothing special. We had the cheese soup - it was good. I had a steak burger and my DH and DS (19) had french dip sandwiches. Everything was fine. It didn't do anything for us at all - not the ambiance or the food.

I had high hopes, but to be honest, when we walked in the place, I was disappointed - kind of dark and very plain.

It wasn't bad - it just wasn't special - IMHO.

I agree. My experience was for lunch and the ambience was good but not exceptional. Same with cheese soup - good but not exceptional. I ordered a salad and it was okay. I will probably return and try a steak. :confused3

You all forgot about the chocolate raspberry shake. It is what I still crave...months later... I had the shrimp app, surf & turf, and the chocolate mousse (kids) for dessert. DH had the scallop app, surf & turf, and creme brulee. It was all good....oh, but I didn't like the whiskey cake. My server saw the look on my face and insisted I try the kids choc. mousse instead. She said it was her favorite!!!

Well I guess I'll my ADR! Sounds like at the very least I should give it a try! :)

Can you get your steak plain, without any sauces, etc. DD loves a good steak but does not like anything on it. Also, do they accept the DDE card? Thanks.

One word FABULOUS!!!!! We went in May '05 around 4pm with no ADR. We only waited about 15 min. The atmosphere is very romantic. Cheese soup and prime rib was to die for!!! We have ADR for May '06 and can't wait for the same meal. Oh, add on the lobster tail to your prime rib. Service was wonderful also.

This is one of our must dines when at WDW...

We love the trout for lunch or the steak for dinner, you cannot go wrong here, and the wait staff has always been excellent.

Enjoy!

I cannot explain how utterly picky dh & I are when it comes to steak. I have eaten at some of the best steak restaurants in the tri state area when I had an expense acct to entertain clients and dh & I have explored our new area restaurants and have a few favorites(Charlie's and Bern's) so I won't say that the Filet at Le Cellier's was my best steak ever. However it lived up to all of my expectations....and after reading these boards-they were many :goodvibes

Ambiance: dark and romantic; tables were fairly close together but we did not feel overcrowded. We enjoyed watching other patrons' entrees arrive so we could view it before we ordered!

Dh precipitiously ordered the cheese soup w/ our drinks- kind of rushing our server I think. Unfortunately, right after we got our drinks she was given several tables with large groups so we were a little forgotten in the shuffle. Adequate service but not exceptional as I had been told to expect. (Tip was 18% I normally tip 20+% for great service but since she had others check in on us as she focused on the larger tables I felt this was sufficient)

Dh ordered the Filet(med), cream cheese mashed potatoes & sauce on the side as well as his fav bernaise sauce as well. I ordered the mushroom filet(well-no flaming pls- I know I'm crazy but anything pink makes me sick)

We got the cheese soup and breadsticks at the same time. I have to say that the soup was incredible! I actually liked the multigrain breadstick better than the pretzel bread but they were all quite good. Dh & I already plan on my making the cheddar soup at home; he encouraged me in looking up the recipe on allears as soon as we returned from our trip. :rotfl2:

The steaks arrived shortly after we had polished off the breadsticks. We also requested softdrinks w/ dinner and those were brought separately. My biggest disappointment was ordering the Icewine Martini- it was too strong for me to enjoy-I should have ordered a nice cab or zin with my steak.

I thought that the mushroom filet was excellent with the butter truffle sauce-althought I tried the maple barbecue sauce dh had on the side and would love that recipe too! The fried parsnips were a pleasant surprise- nice and crunchy adding a bit of texture to the entree but I would imagine they absorbed the flavor of whatever they were paired with. The risotto was a lovely creamy flavor- not overwhelming at all to someone who dispises mushrooms. I did need to pick out several of the mushrooms but they were large enough to see in the dim lighting. Overall I thought it was very well done-and our server had it cooked medium well-but because of the poor lighting got away with it :rotfl2:

Dh switched dipping his filet between the maple barbecue sauce and bernaise sauce. He also drizzled the maple onto the mashed potatoes which were tasty but not as good as the parmesean mashed potatoes at Chef Mickey's. I ate his broccoli as he doesn't eat veggies-they were very good.

We asked the server for softdrink refills when she checked in on us- but she did have to have a runner bring them to us with her apologies almost 10 mins later- she really was quite busy.

She did return to take our dessert orders...I ordered the sampler as I really wanted to try the creme brulee- but figured that dh would like the chocolate cake. Next time we would order one creme brulee and probably the kids' choc mousse- we were unimpressed with the choc cake offering in the sampling. The raspberry sorbet was outstanding and the creme brulee-a dream.

Total was about $108 but we had the DDE- and it came down to about $83- and I felt that overall it was a great meal that we would enjoy again. :thumbsup2

I didn't like the 35 minute wait to be seated and the long wait to get a menu and the long wait to get our appetizers and the long wait to get our entres. Also that our beverages - water and coffee, were not refilled- in other words the wait person took too long. He had apologies and excuses every time, but the meal dragged on when it shouldn't have. My food was very good- I had the salmon. I enjoyed the cheese soup and bread. But I'd never go back because I have better things to do a WDW than sit and wait, and wait, and wait, for something that should not take nearly that long. I had just as good food at Spoodles, without the long waits.

I agree it is good, I'd even say very good. It's just, in my opinion, it isn't great. We do make a point to eat there every trip, though. I do love the breadsticks! The thing that brings the place down, I think, is the service - I've experienced long waits for drink refills on multiple occasions.

We ate at Le Cellier last week and after reading the rave reviews here on these boards and from some friends, i couldn't wait to try the filet.

I am sorry to say that this was our most disappointing meal of our trip. I ordered the mushroom filet medium and my son ordered a plain filet medium. Both came practically burnt. Our waitress (she was fantastic, by the way), took them back and brought us new ones pretty quickly, but these also were too well done and not at all tender. Mom had the chicken and she said it was ok, but nothing special.

As for the breadsticks, I really don't know what the hype is about them. They are soft pretzels, sourdough and multigrain; nothing special.

And as for the soup, I got the beef barley, which i did enjoy and would recommend. DS got the cheese soup and didn't like it. I tried it because I HAD to :) and thought it was good, but not great.

The desserts were the best part; I got the chocolate whiskey cake, mom and DS had the sorbet. Delicious. But we had to wait around 40 minutes for them as there was some problem in the kitchen with missing orders.... :confused3

I don't think I'll go back.

Oh, as for splitting portions: the portions are not big. The filet's are 7 oz, plenty for one person but i wouldn't think for 2.
