My sister gave me a 20% off code. This is my first order. I bought a magenta party dress with headband, purse, and shoes. A short set with shirt, shorts, and sandals. Penguin pajama set with slippers. Rainforest pajama set with slippers. Shimmer outfit with shirt, skirt, and boots. Melody's pajama set with slippers, and Pomeranian pajamas with slippers. So, 7 outfits for $97 shipped including tax. DS thinks I am nuts to spend this much on doll clothes. They will be a birthday present for DD.
Console me and tell me that I did ok.
Thanks

There was one time I spend over $500 on one trip to the AG store in Seattle (not even counting the cost of the trip) so I think $97 is pretty tame, especially for how much you got.

I think you did very well! American Girl Doll clothes are expensive but at least in my experience they really do stand the test of time. I still have mine from 15-20 years ago and plan to pass them down to my own daughter someday.

I always got a little crazy with the AG stuff too. I'd wait for a dress for DD to go on sale at Target, because $29.99 is too expensive. But I'd spend that much on a DOLL dress without a second thought. My reasoning was that I knew the doll wouldn't outgrow it in a few months. :rotfl2:

My DDs played with their AG dolls all the time for years! (Even now, at 14 and 12, they'll get them out every few weeks. They don't really "pretend play" anymore, but they'll do the dolls' hair and change their clothes.) I always said I'd rather spend money on AG, knowing they would take care of it and use it EVERY DAY, than on pile of $20-40 toys I know will be forgotten or broken in a few weeks. So if your DD loves and plays with her AG doll, I'd say you made a great purchase!

I was at the AG store a couple of weeks ago. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the new items that have been rolling out. I saw a new outfit for Kit (think it was called golf outfit) that looked so cheap. Same with another dress for Rebecca. The new room for Julie looks cheap too. It doesn't look like any time or effort like years past. I hope this isn't the route Mattel is going. Prices have gone up but in many cases the quality has gone down. I do understand that they need to keep things current and fresh. My daughter and myself are fans. I've enjoyed dolls since I was little and glad I have a daughter that shares that with me. We've spent A LOT of money at AG. One trip (special trip) was over $1200! AG is not cheap, but I do agree the OP did a great job.

As long as you're happy with your choices, that's all that matters. You definitely stretched your budget very well! And if outfits are your focus, then you did great! I particularly think the magenta party dress looks so nice, but my daughter might disagree.

I learned the hard way that my daughter doesn't care much about the outfits, but instead prefers the accessories. I gave her a budget when we went to the store and she picked Melody's bedtime accessories (which were 40% off for a few days in December) and the school desk. She plays with those but ignores the extra outfit I bought at the same time because it was so adorable and on sale to boot. My niece, on the other hand, loves to change the dolls' outfits. So, figure out what you're focusing on and go with that :-)

I still have all of my AG stuff from childhood, as does my sister. I had Kirsten and many of her outfits. We have pictures of us in London and Paris with our dolls because we pretty much took them everywhere with us for years and years. And even then, those dolls are still in great condition. When they introduced the Truly Me dolls, I think I was in high school and I was so excited that I bought a new doll that looked like me.

I think you did very well for less than $100 and you can know that these items are often heirlooms that get passed down. I look forward to passing down my own AG items to a daughter some day.
