With the much anticipated release of AP rates, I did some figuring of what the hotel rate must be for me to save money.

I purchased a 5 day php for 231. from the disney store....the ap rate is 369.00

138 more....divide that by 6 night stay the rate would have to be $23.00 less...

We got the All Star Movies for 94.00 per night including tax...This would mean, the rate would have to be 71.00 per night or less, including tax....

Is this how you guys figure this type of savings out?

This of course, if if Disney will credit me the full 231 I paid for the park hoppers I got last week...

Does $231 include tax??? your AP cost does not that much I know.

You have a 5 day php and are staying 6 nights/7 days? How are you using your days? One day just the plus no park entry? The AP will not have any plus on it so if the water park is something you want you might be better staying the way you are now.

It looks like from the rumors that the rate for All-Star might be $69 plus tax which will put you over the $71 dollar mark you figured out.

Anyone else want to help explain why or why not.

231.11 adult and 183.18 child- 2 of each, total was 828.58

These prices included the florida tax...

We are staying 6 nights- Sunday thru Saturday. Sunday is our arrival day, and we'll be spending that morning arriving from our last overnight in Brunswick, GA, and getting snacks etc.. at the store..then the evening we have a PS at Chef Mickeys..

Saturday, we are leaving AS Movies and moving to Hampton Inn LBV for an additional 6 days of Orlando vacation, including Sea World, Gatorland, and tons of NOTHING!.....this part will be the real vacation.

We are going to the parks on each ones EE day, except Friday- it's AK EE, but we'll be in MK for the 2nd day in a row.

I don't think the rate is going to make it any better, especially if the 369 doesnt include tax..which is going to be over $20.00

I think I'll stick with the AAA rate I have, it wont save any money to change, and this way maybe 1 extra family whose counting on the AP rate will get one...

I believe the AP is $392, with tax. I really don't think that the difference in room rates at the values with the AP is going to be that great. We are staying at AllSTarMu this summer and the Movies in the fall. We are buying APs but not for the room rate drop. Figure we'll be in the parks a total of about 20 days from 8/04-8/05. Now, if I were staying at a deluxe or even a moderate I might get the AP for the rate break.

I know some people on the boards here frown upon this, and I have personally never done it because I am the one who travels in our family enough to warrant an AP, but you could get a kids AP for $334 I believe and use that for your discount.

I mention some people frown on it because I have seen it happen here but I will add that at least in the Unofficial WDW guide, they mention doing just this to get a good AP rate.

Except the cost of a kids 5 day php and kids Ap is still about $138 so she is still better just leaving it as is.

As you found, the AP rate doesn't save much at the values since they are already so affordable. Where it really makes a difference is at the mods and deluxes... For instance, in December we got AKL for $109/night rather than the usual $199/night....$90 savings x 5 ngihts = $450 savings per room (plus we had 3 rooms on my pass and 3 rooms on DH's so we saved BUNCHES!!)

If you think you may go back within a year, the AP will be more worth it. You'll be able to save on that room rate, too.

And don't forget the 10% discount at World of Disney in DTD if you do a lot of souvenir shopping, and there are various restaurant discounts as well....just a thought.

(But, if you only buy a regular AP (not premium) you will have to pay admission to water parks and Disney Quest for the APholder... but at a discounted rate.)
