I have always lurked on Disboards but never asked a question. Always time for a first. My family includes me(mom), DH, DD(5) and DS(9).
We are staying at PORFQ with free dining. May 30-June 4.. Just paid off today!! anyway here are our ADR'S the only one that sorta worries me is Coral Reef but I am up to suggestions.

May 30- Ohana's at 5:15 ( no park)
May 31- Coral Reef 5:45 ( Epcot day)
June 1- Whispering canyon 6:50 ( AK)
June 3- breakfast at castle 9am ( MK)

I tried to keep the restaurants close to the parks to keep down on travel time. How did I do? thanks for all the great advice that you didn't know you were giving me.

May 30- Ohana's at 5:15 ( no park)- We are doing this one! Good choice!
May 31- Coral Reef 5:45 ( Epcot day)- What about Biergarten or Teppan Edo? I have seen a ton of bad ratings and dropped this one. Although, it might be great for you.

June 1- Whispering canyon 6:50 ( AK)- This one doesn't seem like a good match with Animal Kingdom unless it is near your resort or on the way to it when you leave AK. Plus if AK closes at 6 you won't be able to stay to close and make it to WL. Have you considered Boma, Yak & Yeti, Sanaa or Tusker House after AK?

June 3- breakfast at castle 9am ( MK) YAY! We are doing this one too. I think it will be great. Plus you can show up early and get pics in MK without anyone in the background. Huge perk!

Have fun!

Whispering Canyon is one of my favorites but as newserenity said, it's not close to the Animal Kingdom.

Also I assume you are aware that the Castle Breakfast counts as two table side meals. I'm guessing you do since you don't seem to have any reservations for June 2. I loved that breakfast experience.

I will also add in case you haven't stayed there before, I absolutely love POFQ.

Enjoy your trip. I will be there around the same time.

We didn't care for the castle breakfast, we have eaten both breakfast and dinner there. The only good thing is you are in the castle. That's how we see it anyway.

as I was typing Whispering Canyon I thought it was not close to animal kingdom. It is a little late to really be trying to get different ADR's so I guess we will keep it. I thought about trying Cape May for dinner instead of Coral Reef but I really want to get the most out of the park's. Leaving and then going back is a lot of back tracking.

I thought about canceling breakfast with the castle, not so sure my 9 year old son is going to love it, but I know my 5 year old daughter will. Since we are on free dining I decided now would be the best time to do it. I haven't stayed at PORFQ since it was something else 16 years ago.

If you think there is any chance your son will like it, then he will. The Princesses really are wonderful to everyone. I, at the age of 50, actually enjoy the princess meals more than the traditional character meals because of the speaking and interactiveness (I'm not sure that's a word).

There are two Port Orleans Resorts. One is Port Orleans Riverside. One is Port Orleans French Quarter. I just say that because you seem to have them combined with PORFQ. Riverside used to be Dixie Landing. French Quarter used to be either Port Orleans OR French Quarter. I can't remember which part of the name it has always had.

Cape May is a short walk from the International gateway, or whatever they call it. Seriously, it is so close I wouldn't even think of it as leaving the park.

We've eaten at all of them and loved them!:goodvibes 'Ohana is one of my favorites. We had a fabulous experience at Coral Reef; the tilapia and chocolate wave were amazing! We liked WCC just fine, too; had a fun server. We had lunch at the castle, not breakfast, but the staff and characters were great.
One thing to be aware of, they are pretty loud places, especially 'Ohana and WCC because of everything going on. But, Coral Reef was quite loud, too. CRT was the only relatively quiet one of the bunch. We didn't care, but figured I'd mention it.
Getting to WCC from AK will be easy, just take the WL bus. Getting back will take longer since you'll have to transfer at a park (or DTD). If you are tired, you could always take a cab back to POFQ.

ETA: We ate at the castle when our DS was 9. He went "because his sister wanted to" but he ended up loving it. He didn't care about meeting the princesses, but the waitstaff treated him like royalty calling him prince and all and hey, let's face it, how often do you get to eat in a castle?

I like all of your choices except for Coral Reef. Over priced and the food wasn't all that great. I love breakfast in the Castle. Princess interaction is really good, the hot food is pretty good, love the chocolate chip croissants, and the atmosphere is really charming. What better way to start the day than eating in the happiest place on earth, eating in a Castle in the happiest place on earth.

Nonsense.

Particularly as it gets close to a payoff date, ADR slots open back up because people cancel. And since you can check for ADR slots online it's a pretty painless thing to do on a daily basis.

Although the kids would probably enjoy the 'antics' at WCC, I think you are right to want to stay with something closer to AK. My first recommendation would be to try for an ADR at Boma no earlier than 6:45 pm so you can still make park close. Otherwise, Yak&Yeti has more entree choices than most restaurants, and Tusker has an interesting buffet. And both of those carry the same menu from lunch through dinner so you could eat at one for a mid-day break if you like, with a CS supper later at your resort. Or take the bus from AK to a monorail resort (Contempo Cafe is very cool; Capt. Cooks lets you get a Dole Whip for dessert), then go down to the beach and watch the Electric Light pageant out on the lake. Maybe even stay for the MK fireworks.

If you would rather eat a CS lunch at AK and a later dinner, note that both Y&Y and Tusker have seatings right up through park close. Disney transport continues to run for several more hours, until all the restaurants have emptied out.

If you can't get a different ADR instead of Coral Reef, I just say keep it and develop your own opinion! :thumbsup2 Many people love it! :)

Other than that, your ADR's are wonderful. :goodvibes

We were one of the people had a bad experience at Coral Reef; however, given that you've never been, and it's a pretty cool atmosphere that I am sure the kids would love, it might be worth keeping and who knows .. you might have a wonderful experience with the food!! If you were okay with leaving the park and wanted to walk over to YC/BC or the Boardwalk for dinner, it's a 5-10 minute walk from England.

I have never been to Whispering Canyon, but I agree it's a bit far from AK ... however, if you got to AK for rope drop, or soon after, you would be ready to leave AK for WL by 5:30ish or so to make your 6:50 ressie. We are only two adults, but we are usually ready to leave AK by 3 or so.

I've never done the breakfast at the castle, but I know family members who have, and they said it was a wonderful experience - something to experience .. so that sounds great! Plus, I'm sure it will appeal to your son as well. If you decide it's not something you wanted to spend 2 credits on for breakfast, you could always try to get an early ressie at Crystal Palace or 1900 Park Fare (GF).

Thanks for all of the great comments, we are ready to go.. Now how to keep eating to much. I think we will keep all of the ADR's as they are and take a chance. We really love seafood so hopefully the Coral Reef will have their top chefs in the house that night.

Your ADRs are wonderful! ;)

Not a big Coral Reef fan but try it and see what you think. The aquarium is cool and should entertain the kids.

Don't worry about WCC being too far from AK. You'll be done with AK in plenty of time. If you have hoppers, take the boat over to MK when you're done. If not, take the bus to DTD then take the boat from there back to POFQ.

My son would never admit it, but he LOVED CRT even when he was 7. Definitely keep CRT. It's gotten ridiculously expensive but we've always had fantastic experiences there.

We adore Coral Reef and it is a must-do for us every trip. Both the steak and the Mahi Mahi are outstanding. The portion sizes are small and the price is expensive, but since we are always on the dining plan, that has never bothered us. We have always asked to be seated right next to the aquarium. We have never had to wait more than a few minutes, and our request has always been granted. It is wonderful! The last couple of visits, we had a giant sea turtle keeping us company throughout our entire meal, and scuba divers swim by, too. It is so much fun. And seriously, the steak and the Mahi Mahi are to die for!

We have never done breakfast at the castle, but we have done both lunch and dinner and they were outstanding. You may want to try to reschedule for lunch, to get more "bang" for your two meal credits. The lunch/dinner menu is delicious at the castle. We love Major Domo's Favorite Pie (shredded beef simmered in rich Cabernet sauce served with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables, crowning a light pastry). So good!

I think you will love the Wilderness Lodge and Whispering Canyon. It is lots of fun. I posted a thread yesterday, and people are saying that WC has great steaks, too. That's a bonus!

Best wishes for a fabulous trip! I think your ADRs look EXCELLENT! What a fun trip you have planned!:goodvibes

We loved Coral Reef in March - DH and I both enjoyed our entrees and desserts, and the kids really liked the aquarium. We did lunch our Epcot day.

Every restaurant has its fans and those who don't like it. Form your own opinion. :)

We had a wonderful experience at Coral Reef and would go back in a second.

Enjoy

I am going to try to change the castle to lunch instead of breakfast. That way we can hit MK at rope drop, have a fun lunch then go hang rest a little at the resort. Not sure what time, I guess whatever time they have open.

Glad to see your not lurking anymore. I lurked for 8 months before joining. Learned so much since since.

Your picks are Wonderful!

Have a Magical Trip!

Coral Reef is EXCELLENT. Great atmosphere for adults and kids alike. Never mind the food was outstanding. Obviously my own opinion. Everyone is entitled to theirs. :)
