to go to the parks without my SLR! We are finally at the age where we can go stroller free and just have a backpack ... will I regret not bringing me SLR? Or should I bring it and just put my smallest lens on it?

I have a canon 5dmkii, canon 50d, 24-70L, 70-200L and 50mm (non L) ... plus I do have a canon digital elph P&S ...

I have brought it every other trip ... I hate to not bring it and regret it but I also hate to carry it around and stress about tons of pictures! ack I cannot decide LOL

Bring it. You are already stressing out about it. Get a nice camera backpack (there are many threads around these boards). You don't have to bring all your lenses and both your camera bodies, but I would bring it.

Worst case you bring it with you, the first day you decide it's too much and you throw it in a locker at the park.

Bring one of the SLRs and the Elph. Then after one day of toting around the SLR you'll know weather or not to trade off and just use your Elph.

Get a comfy strap if you don't have one (I love the Crumpler Industry Disgrace myself) and a pouch to keep it safe and keep it on you. Put your favorite walk around lens on it.

I toted my 50D like this for a week. Honestly, it wasn't a big deal. I kept a plastic bag on me to keep it dry when I needed to.

Bring it with you along with the P&S. If there are days you want to go to the parks light, bring the P&S and leave the SLR in the hotel. This way, at least if you decide you aren't satisfied with the P&S photos you are getting, you will have the SLR for the rest of the trip.

Thanks guys. I think bringing it makes sense ... I do have a comfy strap and can store it in the backpack during rides and such (we have small kids so we have to go alone anyway...). And like you all said, I can leave it behind one day if I want to!
