I know I've read threads about this before, but I wasn't going to buy them then:p
I want to be able to use them on the cruise ship and at the parks-with seven of us going we'll be splitting up every once in a while!
I know that having subchannels is important, and so is having one that can vibrate. What I need to know is makes and model #'s so I can compare prices.
Thanks for your help. I've learned so much from these boards!:jester:

mine do not have the vibrate feature but they have the subchannels and they worked great the last two weeks, they are the motorola FR60 and they worked great, DH was in the contemporary and I was in Mickey's Toontown and we could keep in touch without a problem. It saved us so much time looking for each other...

I have the Motorola Talkabouts that don't have the vibrate feature. We try (when we remember) to use them at places besides the parks such as the mall, the beach etc. I will say that I wish the vibrate feature had been available when we bought them. Sometimes it is hard to hear someone paging you if there is a lot of noise like a concert or something. Basically you'll have to wear them on your shirt collar.

We bought our NIB (new in box) from EBAY for about half the going rate. I suggest you buy yours there from a reputable seller (ie one who has sold a lot and has only positive reviews.) I guess if you can't get vibrate, then perhaps you can get an ear bud.

I LOVED having the walkie talkies at the parks. It was so easy to meet up with each other when we split up. It is great also for Downtown Disney if you split up for shopping.

Hi--

I/We LOVE our FRS radios! The radios have the sub-channels but do not have the vivrate feature. We do, however, have the retractable antennaes so we can fold it up and store easily. We have the Cobra radios, the middle-of-the-line ones. I got them on sale at Circuit City and printed a coupon online for $20 each rebate. We use them at the mall and around the neighboorhood too but mostly at the theme parks.

We have the Cobra Microtalk 3's, with the vibrating feature and fold-down antenna, which is "Way Cool" according to my 13-year-old nephew. We purchased them at Sports Authority 14 months ago, and purchased the rechargeable battery packs and charger at Best Buy 2 months later. In June, we purchased a pair of Cobra 2's for 2 reasons: since becoming DVC members we take relatives and friends with us most trips, and needed 3 sometimes, and we want our kids to use the less-expensive 2's at a local theme park(Carowinds). Both the Cobra 2's and 3's have sub-channels, but only the 3's vibrate and have a fold-down antenna, making them smaller. The 2's have a handy belt-clip that DH likes, though. The reception on both is fantastic at WDW, but there is one little glitch I don't understand(maybe someone here knows)...the 2's can call the 3's(but can't make them vibrate)but the 3's can not call the 2's(the radio screen shows a signal, but there is no sound emitting from the radio). We can communicate(talk) just fine between all 4 radios, but the 3's just won't "ring" the 2's to let them know there is an in-coming call. I have e-mailed Cobra and called, but received no response. I tried exchanging the 2's at Best Buy, but they did not have anymore of the 2's packaged together, and they were going to penalize me a percentage(20%, I think) "open box" charge, so we decided to keep them. I really like the 3's better, but for the difference in cost, I would go with a pair of 2's in a heartbeat. The 2's were about $10 more for the PAIR than the 3's were PER RADIO. The rechargeable battery packs work in both, but I would not purchase the ear buds(we are sorry we did, as they were only used once). I hope this helps.

Used the motorola 250 aand with 12 people they are great. Kept tension down and therefore arguments when there are so many traveling together.Would not go without them now.Can pick up others on the same channel but had an alternate channel picked out ahead of time.We all drove with kids!!So having the radios to let others know it was time for a bathroom break was handy!!!!Which seemes to be at least once an hour! What a long trip that was.:jester:

We have the Motorola Talkabout 250's, and I do love using them at WDW (and the soccer field, and the mall, etc)...sure makes life easier. At the time they seemed like the way to go, but I think the vibrate feature would be really great. DH didn't appreciate my cheerful flirting with him on the Talkabouts when he was in the men's room. ;)

I know that with the Motorola's, the Talkabouts are all compatible with each other. I'd like to get a couple of more so that my two oldest children can have them, as well as my DH and I. I have to look into the features of other Talkabout models.

We have the Cobra Microtalk 3's. They're awesome. We wouldn't go to the parks without them! We especially like the vibrate feature and the fold down antenna.

We have a couple of Bell South 1010's at the church. (El-Cheapos) from Wal-Mart. They work really well for the vans, and are so-so in theme parks. We have taken them to 3 parks this summer and they do a pretty descent job. The problem we had at one park was finding an open channel. (They have 14 standard channels on them.) I would definately suggest one with a sub-channel or lockout feature. All in all, they are lifesavers for large groups. Especially when someone gets stuck on a ride and misses a meeting time.

We have Motorola 6210s I think. We got them at costco and I did not seen the same model # anywhere else when we were shopiing around. They do have the vibrate feature which was great in Hershey Park. With all the noise around you just don't hear the page all the time. We are looking forward to using them at Disney in 21 days!!
