Tell me I"m not crazy

Ok booked through the new Visa Code for FL residents today. Had a cabin booked at terrific price. Hubby wants to stay at a hotel with monorail. Cont. least money. Never stayed at a deluxe before. Have 3 kids 2, 4 & 8. Am I crazy to spend so much money to be so close to their favorite park. I could save almost $800 by staying at POR.

Are you crazy? It depends on whether you can afford that extra $800. If you can, you are not crazy. But, assuming you have never stayed at a deluxe resort before, once you stay at one there is no going back. In other words, staying at a deluxe will hook you on deluxe accomodations forever. Of course, this is not an absolute. I do see many people on postings and trip reports that do bounce from disney vacations between deluxes, moderates and values for their stays. But by-and-large it's hard to go back to a moderate or value or off-site resort once you've experienced a deluxe. I know that is what happened to me and I am a cheapskate. That is why I wanted to avoid a deluxe in the first place. But my wife insisted on the Beach Club for our first visit. Now I can't imagine staying at anything less than a deluxe at WDW.

You aren't crazy... if you can swing the money... go for it..we have stayed at most of the deluxes once (for up to a week each) to experince them (normally when we aren't doing the parks to take full advantage of the resort).... we do however keep retuning to PO-R and the All Stars (and do the parks).......

It's a matter of personal preference and what you can afford. If that is where you want to stay and you can afford it then I say stay there. But then again I like to treat myself so maybe I am the wrong person to be answering this question.

We've stayed at the Polynesian one trip, and the next trip we stayed at CBR. Not a huge leap; the moderates are VERY nice. Not so many bells and whistles, and no monorails or cool views of MK. I must say I wouldn't stay at a value when the DTD resorts are so nice and cheap. Deluxes may be addictive for you, but not for us. Saving money is addictive too!

Toesmom, I know it's easy to think of what you can save. But you can save lots more $$ at the Red Roof Inn off-site. If we didn't take that helicopter tour in Hawaii last year, we'd have saved $700 on our trip. But we could afford it, so we did it. So if you can afford the Contemporary, go for it!

I agree with the others - if you can afford it, stay at the deluxe! If your dh wants to stay there - do it!! To have the easy access to MK is going to be so great for you and your kids!

It all depends on how much it means to be so close to MK, for me, it would not matter, I go to MK anyway, and several times...I would rather use the $800 on souvineirs (sp.) and shopping....so many times we used to pay all that extra money for a "view" and really, it was just a waste of money most of the time.

OMG This was me 6 years ago!! My only concern at the time was finding the cheapest resort room on the monirail. I too booked the Contemporary Garden Wing and we fell in LOVE!!! Our room was right outside of the pool in the south wing, It was perfect...I could unpack AND I could monitor the kids at the pool...everyone was satisfied with the arrangement!
While we used the monirail on the first few days of that stay we were told by another guest of the 'walking path' to the MK.....WHAT A FIND!!! No stoller lugging, no pit stops at other resorts, nomore 20 minute commute!!! We would just walk right past the bus stops and onto the path directly into the MK!! 12 minutes top!!! We feel in love with the resort and the conviences it offered. I hope you do too!!!
