I just found you all! And just found out that the Minnie 15K takes place during our already booked trip next year. I think it is a sign...

My history as a runner is spotty but I did a decent 5K 2 years ago and then got PG again and just started running again this month. Starting to think that I would like to run a 10K next year and then I am on the disboards looking at stuff for our trip in May 08 when I read about the Minnie 15K. Inspire me! Make me do this! I know I can do it, and my only goal would be to finish. I am able to run a 5K now but have never run more than 4 miles. I would love to do this but need someone to help me stay on track. Any takers?

This will be our first trip to WDW with the whole family (I was PG with DS #2 when we last went) and our first trip as DVC members. I want to make this trip inspirational in many ways, but most of all to myself!

So tell me I can do it! (and point me in the right direction for training!) I have 6 months and the countdown begins now...

You can totally do it!

I really didn't start running until January of 07 (did a 5k- dead last finish, baby!) I had never run more than 3 miles before. I attempted to train for the Minnie, but didn't run more than probably 2-3 times/week. I worked up to a LR of 8 miles a couple of weeks before (on the TM- I did almost no running outside). You've got more time and a better base!

I did the Minnie and loved every minute. (Well, the initial 3-4 miles or so are pretty boring because you're on roads, but the people watching/t-shirt reading is great!) I planned on just finishing too, and not worrying about my time. I took a ton of pictures, waved to WISHers, and generally had a fabulous time.

The medal is great too! I carried mine around in my glove box for 2 weeks in case some unsuspecting soul made the mistake of asking me how it went.

Have you looked at Robert's site? He has tons of great pictures/reports. It's disneyrunning.com. But be warned- I signed up for the Minnie and the GOOFY after reading all the inspirational stuff. Now I've got a running schedule that tells me I have to run 15 miles this weekend! :scared1:

But less of me, more of you... yes, you can do it!!! :cool1:

Hey Sara74!

I'm in a similar situation. We already have our WDW holiday booked for the beginning of May and I noticed the Minnie marathon. :cool1:

I'm only aiming for the 5km. My main goal is weight loss & maintenance. I thought this would be the perfect motivation for me! I walk/run on a treadmill now but would like to commit to a training schedule.

You said you've already completed a 5k (you inspire me! :goodvibes ), so if you've done that, know that you CAN accomplish your goal of a 15k! :thumbsup2

Of course you can do it...you can do anything you put your mind to. :woohoo: Make sure you keep your goals reasonable like finishing or just not finishing last work great for me. :rotfl: There are many different training programs out there, Marathoning for Mortals, coolrunning.com, etcetera. You need to find one that works for you. I have done several 5K races and just did the ToT 6.5K with a 2 nonrunner friends and my DH (we won't mention what is exercise consists of):scared1: and we all survived. If you can do 4 miles, you can do 8 (walk/run alternating) and from there you should get further inspiration. We are all here for you...run on!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the encouragement! I feel like this is meant to be, we already had the trip booked, then I started running again, then I found the race listed and then last night a good friend's DH mentioned that he wanted a running buddy! Then I found a whole bunch of nice people that are encouraging me.

But I need you all to keep me motivated. I need someone to hold me accountable. And I will need lots of advice. I have looked for training schedules, but cool running has one for 10K and the half marathon and I am wishing that they had one for this distance or even a ten miler. I don't want to have to do lots of thinking to figure out a training schedule, lots of running is one thing, but lots of thinking AND running might be too much for me!!:rotfl:

Like princessrunner said, my only goal is to finish. Finishing on two feet is preferable to crawling, but I'd be ok with that too.;)

For training programs, try Hal Higdon (www.halhigdon.com), he has a 15K training program at three differnent levels (novice, intermediate, and advanced). I used his novice 5k program for my first race ever and trained for my first marathon (which I ran yesterday) using his Novice II marathon training program. Also, you can go to www.runnersworld.com and use the "Smartcoach" to enter a recent race time, number of miles per week that you currently run, distance training for, and how hard you want to train, and it will design a program for you. That is actually what I used to train for the first 10 mile race that I ran (however, I entered "hard" for how hard I wanted to train and found it to be way too hard and had to cut back on some of the runs).

Sara, Welcome to WISH!

I am so happy that you have found us. Of course you can do this. You have time to train.

We will keep you motivated. Please join us on the weekly walker/runner thread. There you will find many who are training for one event or another.

All are welcome there, don't be shy. We especially love that there are new event participants to play with. It is such fun to help each other through training.

I just noticed this event and we leave Friday May 1st, or are scheduled too. I am seriously considering going for the Minnie on Saturday and adding a day at a value resort or something.

I just did the ToT 6.5K and it was so much fun.

I would love to see the medals though for this event.

Sara, keep your daily or weekly posts going on the walking thread and the support will be there for you. I did not get a chance to meet the WISHers at the ToT event :guilty: due to one DF with motion sickness hangover and the other DF with back problems and being stuck in a hotel room until the race but just seeing them and watching their comradery and determination during the race was beyond awesome. They truly are a great group of people. :grouphug: I am glad I found them as they have got my mojo going for the 2009 marathon.....after the 2008 ToT again.....:woohoo:
