I almost never do buffets, most are mediocre and kind of gross me out, but I'm OK with the Biergarten.
This is probably because I have some great memories of meals there with family: singing along with the band, watching my little daughter dance with the other children (she's 27 now), remembering the time my husband ate multiple plates of food, drank one of those huge beers, then got chosen to polka with one of the dancers and nearly lost his supper due to being swung around so many times. We still laugh about that! A few years back my parents had their 50th anniversary celebration meal there, and everyone found food they liked and had a good time.
We are of German heritage, and in an absolute sense I think my mom probably cooks better German food. That said, I have always found things I like to eat at the Biergarten. Love the tomato salad (even looked up the recipe at home), always try a few of the meats, and I seem to remember a surprisingly good fish dish once. There is also a nice smattering of desserts, and I'm sure having a good beer or two to wash it down helps a lot

. This is a place you go to for a combination of factors: the unique tiered courtyard and communal atmosphere, the band, a filling meal, German beer, and hopefully to make some good memories.
One thing to be wary of, the Biergarten rivals 'Ohana in wait times to be seated. They continually run behind due to people lingering to drink beer and listen to the band. There is a beer stand outside to help pass the time, though. My favorite is the Oktoberfest. Have fun!
