My birthday is next week and I am thinking about hinting around for a Kindle. I usually buy my books at yard sales, etc., so this will be a big step for me.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I am most worried about the visual ease of reading, plus the price of books.

I love my kindle! The biggest problem when I first got it was spending way too much money on books because it was so easy to get them. Now i've become friends with the free books on amazon so i'm more in control. :) You can change the font and it is not back lit so it's easier on the eyes. It is my favorite toy (besides my iphone :))

Sometimes I forget that it isn't a book. Not only do I love the Kindle, but I love Amazon's customer service. I had mine for 10 months and then it wouldn't "connect". I called Amazon. He told me that it was the internal modem and I would have one the next day. They overnighted it, provided a shipping label and I sent the old one back. DH travels a lot and he is planning on getting either the Kindle or the Nook. He thought that he wanted an Ipad but you can really read them in the sun.

Last December I told my DH NOT to buy me a Kindle because I didn't think I would like it, I loved books too much. He didn't listen to me and bought it anyway.
I'm glad he didn't, I absolutely love it!
I also bought the little Mighty Bright clip on light for it and I love that too. I can read in bed without disturbing DH with the lamp on.

Last Christmas I bought DW a Nook. I chose that over the Kindle because we aren't big Amazon people, and she spends a ton of time at B&N. She loves it but hasn't moved completely away from books. Our kids love to read, so they all go to the library weekly where she usually picks up a couple a week. If there is something new that comes out, she usually gets it on the Nook.

Had I know that Apple was going to come out with the iPad last year, I would not have purchased the Nook, I would have held off and gotten an iPad.

It is the best invention in at least a decade. I adore mine. Books cost about the same as hard copies (some more some less) but are easy to get so I have to have self control. On the other hand, there are loads of free books available too. I thought i would miss the feel and smell of paper books but the benefits outweigh that negative by a huge margin.

About a month ago, DH bought me a Nook. I love it. I am not a big book buyer though so I went with the Nook over the Kindle so I could use our awesome library here in town. I can borrow books from our library and read on the Nook.

Either way, I know you will enjoy it. Such a cool invention!

I travel a great deal and cannot imagine what it was like before my kindle. It's easy to read, easy to hold, easy to use. The battery life is amazing. I read 4 books last week without having to charge it once.

I really like my Kindle. BUT, it's an expensive way to read books if you read a lot. Ever since they had to start using the Publishers pricing, it's been a lot more expensive to get books on it.

I still use the library heavily and also buy books using coupons at Borders. My Kindle mostly gets relegated to the Free books available and anything I really want to read but can't get at the library or cheaper at the bookstore.

Since you are used to getting books at yard sales at bargain prices, I thought you'd want to know.
