Salut,

the planning of our Disneytrip continues and I am looking for a perfect restaurant to celebrate my mothers birthday. We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel Castle Club and since we have young children it seams easy to have our dinner there. I have some questions about California Grill?

* Is it a very formal restaurant or are children just as welcome as adults?
* What type of menu do they have? (I have tried to find it on the internet)
* About how much can we expect the bill to be for 4 adults and 2 children?
* Do we need to make reservations before arriving to DLP?
* How is the food? I mean we had originally planned to go to a 1 star restaurant in Maux but we thought it would be easier to stay at the resort this time. The fact that it is expencier than other restaurants at the DLP do not have to mean that the quality could match a restaurant outside the resort.

I am looking forward to any answer.

The menu is here: http://www.dlpfoodguide.com/californiagrill.html

Never tried it but it seems a little bit too formal, even if they have a children´s menu. For children, better go next door (Inventions)

As far as I know, Manhattan Restaurant (HNY) has better service and it's not as expensive as California Grill.

You can see a good review about both restaurants at Danny and Jacky Blog

Bye!

You have picked the top restaurant in DLP to go for a meal so I'm sure it will be a special birthday for your mother :goodvibes

Have a look at www.dlpfoodguide.com for a look at the menu.

Also great review under restaurant reviews in Dan and jackie's blog here

We ate there in June 2006 (2 adults) you can find some pictures in my album here: http://pp.mousekingdom.com/thumbnails.php?album=281

To answer your questions: Yes this is a very formal restaurant and perfect for a quite evening or for a birthday celebration! Children are as welcome as everywhere in the resort. But I think children younger than 16 will be very bored at the CG! Especially due to the fact that the Inventions is right next door with a great characters buffet!
The CG serves a great menu! (As you can see on my pictures!) And the food at the CG or the Manhattan restaurant can't be compared to other DLRP restaurants!
We paid for 2 adult’s menus (starter, main dish and dessert) and 1 bottle of water 90€ (with 15% Shareholders discount!!) Without that discount we would have paid more than 100€! But the restaurant is worth every penny!
So I think 4 adults and 2 children would pay about 250€! But if you want to have win you can consider 300€ or more!!!

I would recommend eating at the Inventions. The buffet is the best which we ever had. (And we had a lot of buffets in many non-Disney restaurants and also many DLRP restaurants!)
And your kids will never forget the great character interaction! :woohoo:

We eat there at least once each trip. We have 2 kids (6 & 10) and they are always made welcome. Last time they were taken in to the kitchen to meet the chef and collect their own desserts. They both came out wearing chefs hats! The service is excellent and the food is TDF. We're not big fans of Inventions and would choose CG every time, especially for a special occasion.

Have you stayed CC before? You will have a wonderful time, we are heading back in August for the 10th time and cannot wait....... enjoy! :thumbsup2

Hi Kona, does that mean you have stayed 9 times in Castle Club? :scared1:

Thank you for sharing your pictures, I am staying at the DLH CC in two weeks and can't wait. Do lots of characters come in to the CC lounge for breakfast?

It seems to be a more regular thing than it used to be. We saw a few characters each morning last trip. You can peer over the balcony and see who is downstairs and what the lines are like too.

I hope you have a great time! :)
