Tell me everything about POR Alligator Baillou section!

scriv2 - Hi, I'm the OP of this topic. We stayed at the Mansions last year and it was very beautiful so do not worry at all. Interestingly enough, last year when I was online learning everything I could about POR the main idea I got was that most people prefered the Mansions section of POR so we decided that is the section we wanted to stay at. The rooms and scenery are very beautiful and I coudn't complain if we stayed there again. This year, while reading the DIS boards and other boards about DW I noticed that so many people are now talking about the AB section, so I thought it would be cool to stay there this year to really get an understanding and feel for the difference between AB and the Mansions.

Don't worry though, you'll love the Mansions!!!

Okay - now you got me wondering what the mansions are like. I booked the POR mansions from looking at pictures on the website. Are they not as nice? Did I make a mistake?Help!

The mansions are great. We have never had a bad experience staying in them. I picked the mansions over AB.

Hello..we are staying at POR for the first time in late Oct early Nov :flower:
I know pool hopping isn't allowed but since POFQ is a sister resort can we use the pool over there? My DD8 saw a picture of the pool with the serpant slide and really wants to go for a swim over there! And what about the refillable mugs? Can you use them at both food courts?

TIA

I know that you can use the pool at POFQ - just as you said, they are sister-resorts. For this reason, I would really think it would work the same way with the refillable mugs - that you would be able to use them at both POR and POFQ. If anyone can verify this for the poster, please do so!

Hope this helps!

You may use both pools and refill mugs at both places. Your mug will say Port Orleans on it, I believe.

Thanks!

I have another question (sorry)...does anyone know why there isn't an elevator in the AB section?

I think there are no elevators maybe because the bldgs are only 2 floors. We've only stayed on the first floor because the first time we stayed there my dad had just had open heart surgery and the second time my mom had recently had knee surgery.

We'll be staying in POR AB section the week of Oct 9th, our family's first trip to Disney. Tell me all you veterans, do people bring their beach towels to swim at the resort pools or do you just use your room towels and request more for your showers?

Thanks

We stayed there several years ago, on a trip with my sister and nephew. I had no idea when we booked the rooms that the sections were so different. We had asked for rooms close together, but sis got AB, while we were in the mansion section. When I saw her room, I was green with envy for the rest of the trip! Our fave is Wilderness Lodge, but the AB section of POR is certainly worth considering if you like that rustic look.

Towels are provided at the pools. You don't need to bring your own.

We stayed in the AB section for the trundle bed. We're a family of four, but we have a boy and a girl. Ds had his own bed, and dd used the trundle. She was quite comfortable. The trundle bed is OK for a child, but size-wise it might be too small for an adult.

We loved AB, though the mansion section looked beautiful! I don't think you could go wrong in either section.

Old Man Island and Muddy Rivers were great! One evening, we ventured to POFQ's pool and enjoyed it. That's a perk of staying at either PO--you get 2 themed pools!

Another question on POR AB, I requested a first floor room. Now I"m wondering about bugs? We are going to take an air matress for 2 of our 3 children to sleep on so DH and I can have a bed to ourselves. A double for two won't due for us, we're used to a California King. Now I'm wondering what do you all think of having the children on the air mattress and the other on the trundle...we don't want any late night visits from creepy crawlers. Should I request an upstairs room?

Thanks for the advice.

I have never seen a bug problem at POR. In fact I have hardly seen any bugs anywhere at Disney...weird. Anyway, I don't think you will have the floor space to use a trundle and an air matress. The trundle slides out from the bed closest to the door and can't be moved from there. It is almost all the way over to the door. I don't believe there would be room for even a twin inflatable between the beds or at the end of either bed.

my family used to stay at dixie landings all the time when i was little. in the section that is now alligator bayou. it was the most convenient place to stay because of the location to the pool, which was really nice, i still remember it clearly, and the main office/dining hall. i would totally recommend it if you can get it.

as for bugs, i never saw any inside of the room when we stayed there (we used to stay on the first floor all the time, because of the older family members that would travel with us). i do remember seeing a bright green tree frog on one of the shutters outside the building during a thunderstorm. it totally made my day. :)

Lizzybee couldn't we move the table and chairs and maybe stick them in the bathroom to put an air mattress there? Boy that stinks that rooms are that small that there isn't even a little rectangular space for a little double air mattress. Oh well if we have to we'll sleep in the double beds. I just thought we'd all get a better nights sleep not being cramped together.

Thanks for letting us know about the bugs glad to hear noone has had any experience with them on the bottom floors.

I'm assuming you're talking about a double size air mattress? If so, there really isn't any room for one that size. Even if you moved the table and chairs it would be a very tight squeeze. You would be better off bringing two twin size mattresses and put one by the window area (and move the chairs and table over a bit) and the other in the vanity area.
Or each adult can share with one child...that's what I do.

Also, when we were at POR in June, there were no towels available at the quiet pools. There may have been at the main pool on Ole Man Island, I didn't notice since we didn't swim there. But the quiet pools had none, so plan on bringing some from your room.

And I never saw a single bug in our room..not once in our 3 trips to POR.

We were just there in March and I don't think there's anywhere to move the chairs/table to, they were up against the wall. Maybe near the bathroom you might fit one twin air matress, but I honestly can't think of anywhere to put a double. We stayed there with 3 adults and 2 kids. One adult and one child slept in each bed and one adult (mostly me) slept on the trundle (neither child wanted to be exiled to the bed by themselves when they could cuddle a grandparent). We didn't feel at all cramped in the space when we were there.
