We justed decided to go the the World 17 days ago. When I called to make reservations I tried to get POR, my Disney Family loves it there. We'll they were all booked. So I booked a FW Cabin, at an AP rate. I have been calling CRO just about every day to see if POR has had any cancellations and nothing. So I am resigned to stay in a FW Cabin. It's not that I'm not excited I am, it's just that we know we love POR and the unknown can be scary. The cast DH, ME, DS13, DD10, and DD8, leaving in 9 days (single digits) :woohoo: TIA

You will love the Cabins!

Before we bought into DVC, we stayed in a Cabin. Make sure you get a cart to ride around the area. Makes getting from one place to the other very easy!

The pools are nothing special, but my kids, (at the time were 7 & 4) loved the pool. Your kids are a bit older, but they will like it I'm sure. Make sure you go to the beach to watch Wishes from MK at night (& the water pageant too).

Make sure you do the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. Food is great, show is corny, but very cute.

We're 33 days out.

Have a great time!

I think that Fort Wilderness cabins might become your favorite resort. There is so much to do there. The cabins are great you have a full kitchen,a bedroom with a full sized bed and a set of bunk beds, there is also a pull down full sized bed in the living room. You also have a porch with a grill outside your door.Plenty of room for everyone without the noise from the hall way or next door and lots of room for the kids to let off steam. We have never rented a golf cart for the full stay just for a trip around the campground. The buses are very regular about ten minuets apart no waiting just make sure you study the bus map. Conecting to the parks is easy from the Outpost (where you check in) you can get a bus to Epcot.Animal Kingdom,Downtown Disney or the water parks. At the other end of the campground (Settlement)you can get a bus to MGM or a boat to Magic Kingdom. There are great internet sites with all kinds of Fort Wilderness info, just type in Disney World camping. :surfweb: We love the cabins and wouldn't stay any where else.Have a great vacation. :cool1:

two helpfull hints: 1.) if you are not renting a golf cart, ask for a cabin at the beginning or end of a loop when you check in, it will save lots of walking. 2.) remember, anywhere you are in the campground, if you want to get back to your cabin via bus, get on the outpost PURPLE! I love the cabins and the campground. We will be there next month, but bring our own golf cart! Have fun!

I think after you go to FW, you will not go back to POR! Our kids loved it there and are looking soo faward to returning this Christmas!!

If I may be so bold ... what rate did you get? We're doing AP's this year and planning 3 trips within the year. I'd really like to have one trip be in the cabins, but the first trip is the only one planned so far. I've camped in the campground many times as well as done the trailers (that no longer exist) once. I just love the campground and can't wait until circumstances let me get back there! princess:

For April, I paid $207.40 a night for the cabins with the ap rate.

Thats the same AP rate we got. Looks like we will be there at the same time.

We are staying in the cabins for the first time ourselves this week. In fact, this is being written from one!

We've always stayed in either Port Orleans Riverside or Wilderness Lodge, but had to use the cabins this time as we had a party of 6 and I really didn't want to fuss with two rooms. We did rent a golf cart and are finding it indespensible, especially since two of our party are just under 3 years old.

For the pluses, I will say that this is the most relaxing place I have ever stayed. It has been quiet, and we settled right in like it was home.We open the door in the morning and don't worry about the twins... they love tracking down anoles and have even spotted a pair of ducks, to their delight! It has a homey feel to it that is absent in any hotel room I have ever stayed in.

On the negative side, if you are used to one of the other resorts you will find that transportation is really the pits by comparision. Study the maps and bus routes carefully! Commit them to memory, write them on the back of your hand or your forehead if necessary, but know what transportation gets you where. For example, the boats are the only way to the Magic Kingdom, and they come and go from the marina. The busses to Epcot however, leave from the Outpost Depot a mile down the road.

So what you really want to avoid is going to the Magic Kingdom in the morning (cart parked at marina), zipping over to Epcot in the afternoon, and then returning from Epcot. Uh oh.. cart is at the marina, so now you need to take the Settlement Orange (or Purple, or maybe Yellow?) bus down to the Marina to get your cart. There are alternatives, but they all involve multiple busses and a bit of extra time, which at 10 pm tries the patience of adults, never mind young children. Oh, and don't wait for the Disney Studio bus at the Outpost Depot, cause it picks up and drops off at the Settlement Depot, which is a short walk from the Marina. It did seem to take a couple of days to get the hang of planning our day and not waiting for half an hour at the wrong depot.

Would I stay here again? Yes..without a doubt. I don't think it would be the best place to stay for a first-timer, or if I were interested in getting the most done in the least amount of time. Even if you get the transportion right it seems to take more time to get to or from anywhere. That aside, I have never enjoyed a vacation more...

We took our first trip to Disney last year and stayed in an accessible cabin. We are headed back in a week and plan on staying in a cabin again. We love them!

I can imagine that it is not for everyone. But, they are perfect for our family.

Our daughter is in a wheelchair, so we don't wait on the buses, we drive our van to the parks.

The busses are a bit confusing, even to the drivers. We took our cart down to the marina area, and then took a bus to MGM. However, on the way home, the bus driver dropped us off at the outpost! I think he was a little confused. I just jumped on a bus to the site while another adult went down to the marina to get the cart. I love staying at the campground. You still get the Disney magic feel, but not a busy, hustling, everyone running everywhere feeling. It is the best kept Disney secret for relaxing. Enjoy your stay!

the water parade and the fireworks are really cool to go watch down at the lake.

i really enjoyed the cabins. it was so nice to have a whole kitchen with a big fridge and a stove and a microwave and everything. i really liked it. it's good for a bigger family too.

the only thing i missed was the palm trees......i love palm trees!

We stayed at the cabins and enjoyed it. It was very quiet and nice to have a lot more space than a average hotel room. BUT, we didn't rent a golf cart and the transportation got on our nerves. We had to wait on a bus to take us to another bus to get to the parks. Coming back from the parks with a tired little girl and having to wait twice for buses was a pain. Magic Kingdom wasn't that bad because we took the bus to the Settlement, then walked to the marina to get on the boat. We went in September and the bugs were horrible, especially walking down the marina to wait on the boat or at Outpost waiting on a bus. One night two little frogs hopped in our cabin and DH had to catch them. Overall, we enjoyed it but I think its worth renting a golf cart.

I think the cabins themselves are very nice. I think they are located way to far from the campground amenities. The Meadow or Settlement Trading Posts, the main pool. While the pool for the cabins is closer it is very small..no aracade..no place to eat..my kids didn't care for it. I did not like having to take a bus to get to the pool. At the time my kids were young..and we actually were using two strollers..and it was a pain the butt getting on and off busses with two strollers just to go to the pool. We actually changed resorts..and went over to the Poly. We did rent the golf cart for the time we were there..and it was indispensable. Wouldn't go to the cabins(were called trailers when we were there) in August without one. I happen to love
FW...and hope to take our own travel trailer there. The main camping loops are in much better areas as far as accesibility to the pool and marina areas, bike rentals, golf cart rentals, trading posts, than the cabin loops. We also visit the campground and bike ride there whenever we stay at the Wilderness Lodge. I just don't find the particular location of the cabin loops to be accesible to the many amenities that the campground offers. Considering the deluxe rates that are charged for them...they do not offer the same amenities that the deluxe resort would offer for the same money. That's just us..and I'm sure there are others who find the seclusion enjoyable. I found in inconvenient. I was told by a neighbor of ours that during the 80's the trailers were located in area closer to the Meadow Trading post..and they were able to walk across to the pool which was nearby. Of course they didn't have the busses then either, they used the open air trams that they use in the parking lots. Frankly, I think I'd have liked that better too. I did notice the last two visits, that they have a couple of cabins in the loops up near the marina...boy that would be real nice. They appeared to be empty whenever we've seen them. Haven't heard or read of anyone who has been able to book those. It is a great idea though. Wish they offered the cabins in locations like those. The cabins themselves are lovely, as we looked in one that was being cleaned during one of our bike rides..just don't personally care for the location. Would definelty recommend the golf carts from that location.

I can answer the question about the cabins in the 100 loop. My friend who goes to FW all the time told me to request the 100 loop for our cabin ( he takes his trailer). When I called to add the request to my reservation the CM had a good laugh. (I am not kidding ..she laughed) Then she told me that there a few cabins in the 100 loop that are reserved for VIP and executives. Okay, I get it. But I could have survived without the laughing. She thought it was hilarious.

Since I am a FW newbie I don't know if they sell these cabins if and when there are no VIP's around. Does anyone know? Oh well, we will have fun no matter where they put us. By the way, the CM who laughed at me also told me that there is no smoking in any of the cabins so you can't request one for medical reasons. Is this right?

Me: "Can I request a cabin in the 100 loop?"

CM: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl:....NO!

Don't know about closer locations for cabins. We first stayed at WDW in 88 in a Fleetwood trailer and we were in the 2700 loop. That's back when there were only two parks, MK and Epcot!

I believe it was in 1984 that my neighbor said she stayed in trailer loop which was close to Meadow Trading Post area. Since our first trip to them was some 10 years later, she was surprised when I had showed her our campground map and where the trailer loops were located in comparinson at that time.
