Tell me all about Hilton Head

As a WDW lover....I never would have thought a vacation to Hilton Head would even be considered...however DH has expressed some interest in possibly going instead of WDW next Summer.

Can someone detail some highlights of the resort for me and possibly activities etc. It would probably be myself, DH , DS(9), DS(4) and my sister and her child age 1 1/2 by next summer.

What is there to do besides beach/pool stuff?? I am going to do some searches next but if anyone has good experiences/ or bad I'd like to hear from you.

Overall....is it a good "family vacation" .....or will I be missing my WDW ??

Hi my WISH-buddy!

My home resort is Hilton Head and we love it! DH wouldn't agree to a DVC purchase on site at all but when we stayed at HH on cash, he was sold! The HH experience is totally different from a Disney experience - it's much much more laid back. We have never been in the summer months when I'm sure they have lots of "sun and fun" activities, we usually visit between October and January and we find plenty to do. There are tons and tons of restaurants on the island including some in walking distance. There are two outlet facilities close by. You can rent bikes, swim, book fishing trips, dolphin cruises and the famous Chef Gordon meal at the beach house. The beach house itself is a great destination (requires driving, shuttle or biking over).

When I think of a Hilton Head vacation, I think of totally vegging out, sleeping late, making brunch in the villa, hitting the pool for a bit, shopping at the outlet, a nice dinner at a great seafood place, enjoying the campfire and retiring back to the villa for some board games before turning in for the night.

We also spend some time at Big Murgy's Den in the afternoon playing checkers and a few lively games of pool. There are daily activities for the kids including crafts and stuff.

I'm sure others will post more but this gives you an overview of what I love to do when me and my family are at HH.

After visiting there last fall, I foresee we will end up using at least half, if not more than half, of our points there.

You'll find plenty to do, but it's an especially good place to not do anything much at all.
