We've always flown into MCO, but it looks like this time rates are horrendously expensive. In order to broaden our options we're considering Tampa. How is it for a first-timer? Easy to get around? We'll be renting a car and also wonder how the rates might compare to renting out of MCO. How's security? How far away is it? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.

We have flown into Tampa several times, but not in the last 3 years, so I don't know about security there! I can tell you that it's about an hour and twenty minutes to WDW, it's a easy drive, right up I4, the airport is easy to get around, no problem renting a vehicle!

Have you checked any of the rates into Sanford Airport? We are saving a ton of money this year by flying there. If your local airport offers flights there, I'd look into it. It's only about 20 min further than MCO.

Tampa is an excellent alternative to MCO. It takes about 60-75 mins. to get to WDW.
Security, it is about the same as MCO, except being smaller it is a bit faster.
Car rates vary. sometimes a bit more expensive, sometimes a bit less. You have to do the comparison for when you plan to go.
I was a first timer once and had no problem. They give you a map and pretty good instructions. Luckily, Dee can read a map. :)
