I'm getting ready to do my winter shopping. I've been thinking about UGGs for a while and need some feedback.

What kind of UGGs do you have?
Do they keep your feet dry in the snow/slush?
Do you have to put water protector stuff on them?
Do they have any bracing in the ankle or are the "floppy" for lack of better term?
Do the boots have tread on the bottom to keep from slipping outside?

I have a pair of snowboots that are warm and comfortable but I wanted something easy to slip on and off and lightweight but can still be out in the snow for a quick trip.

We are going to Michigan in December and even if there is no snow(yeah right) I need to keep my toes warm!

Any input is appreciated.

I don't own UGGs but my daughter does.

They are warm and comfy and yes they have a tread of sorts on the body.

They don't have a lot of support in the ankle or arch. In fact, none really.

They aren't really meant for being out in the snow/slush or wet weather. There is a protectant that you can put on them but it doesn't hold up to serious moisture. My DD's pairs or somewhat trashed when she wore them around a wet campus last year. Now she doesn't wear them out in the rain or snow.

If it is snowing and you have a pretty clear path from the house to the car, that should be okay.

The tall camel colored classic kind, the same but a short version, and another pair that I use only in the house.

I don't wear them were they can get wet because they're not easy to dry properly.
Do you have to put water protector stuff on them?
Yes, because see above. I got it at Nordstrom, along with the boots.

Floppy.

I only slide when it's icy so it's nothing more or less in the slide department than most shoes.

I really love my Uggs, I have 3 pairs now and I don't regret buying any of them. But, I live in Oregon where it might snow once or twice and when it does, I don't wear them. You do need to care for them well if you want them to keep the integrity of the outside suede. So if you do get them wet, you have to dry them a specific way (and you can google that for the various wet circumstances). I know it sounds weird but I've had friends end up with funny looking and/or funny feeling Uggs because they didn't take care of them.

I have a pair of Ultimate Shorts. I tried the regular Uggs and the Ultimates on at the same time and I really liked the support in the Ultimates a lot better. In addition, the food bed on the Ultimates can be replaced if/when it wears out. IIRC I have enough support through the ankle but then it's just warm fuzzies past there. The tops can be turned down to make a cuff if you want, but I don't like the way it looks. I do spray them with water protection since they are suede. They probably are not the best boots for walking through slushy puddles. The repellent won't work on boots that are immersed in water.

I live in Wisconsin and I bought my Uggs to drive my DD to school, walk the dog or to run out to the store. I have also worn them to Badger football games. They do keep my feet warm and dry :thumbsup2.

One thing though ... my DD trashed her $100 Uggs from last year by wearing them every single day. She trashed her $35 Bear Paws the year before doing the same thing and I had hoped that the Uggs would stand up to her use. Nope. Her Uggs had the fleece worn away from the footbed and tears in the fleece in the throat of the boot. I sent the Uggs back under warranty and they replaced them with a new pair free of charge. Luckily I had bought the original pair a little big at the recommendation of the sales clerk so I could get more than one year's worth of wear out of them and the replacements fit her fine. I think she has them on right now and it's in the 70's *sigh*.

Robin, I was looking at the Ultimates also. Do you have something like this?? http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2843729?origin=category&resultback=2438

I don't need something to go walking through oodles of snow but something to walk down the sidewalk after its cleared but still slushy if you know what I mean. Mostly I just wanted something easy to wear and pack for the trip to the Frozen Tundra of Michigan.
Yes, that's exactly what I have :). I usually wear a size 8.5 and my Uggs are a size 8. BTW, you can get them a lot cheaper at City Sports if you don't mind them in black. They are $160 with free shipping and you should be able to find a 15% off coupon somewhere.

I have a pair of Ultimates and I love them! They're quite similar to these ones:

I spray them a few times a year with protectant spray and after two years they are still in nearly brand new condition. I live in Canada and we get a fair bit of snow, so I really wanted a good, solid boot and something that would stand up to the elements. These have pretty much been perfect! They are comfy, warm, durable and while they aren't the most beautiful boots in the world, they do their job really well.:thumbsup2

I would definitely recommend looking into the Ultimates and definitely get a good protectant! It makes a big difference. Uggs take a little extra care but IMO it is very worth it. When my current pair eventually do wear out I will buy another pair for sure. Getting to wear my Uggs every day is one of the only things I look forward to when the seasons change!

You can also buy a kids size, I think 6.5 in kids is 7 in adults or something along those lines. I love them, and will be buying a new pair this year. They aren't made for walking through snow, but they are awesome just the same.

I have the ones you posted, which I have worn in "mild" snowy conditions. I did put a suede protector on them and they are a little funky from getting wet but that doesn't bother me. I have the chocolate color. LOVE THEM. The ultimates have much more of a sole and I didn't have any slipping problems when I had them in Oregon last Christmas when it did snow. My inlaws live on a giant hill and even unplowed I didn't have an issue getting down to the car or back up.

I also have these (well the adult ones) in black.

and now that I see these in grey I think a trip to Nordstrom is in order

I don't have Uggs because I'm too cheap:lmao: but I have Bear Paws and I love them. In fact, I just bought a another pair in PURPLE...I was hoping my dd would want them but she doesn't so I will have to wear them and embarass my kids;) Anyway, I wear the BearPaws to run around, do errands, get the kids from school and they keep my feet toasty warm. I also wear them when the kids go skiing and I sit in the lodge. just an alternative if you don't want to spend lots of money.

I have the Cardy Classic Knit Boot in black from the kids Dept. Saved a bit of money that way. ;) I love them. We had lots of weeks of temps in the teens and 20's last winter. I have Raynauds in my toes and could not keep them warm! These did the trick. I love love loved them. First winter my toes did not stay white.

If there is ANY chance of another cold winter, I may get another style and color.

I have the Sundance Uggs and they keep my feet really warm. There's not much support but they're not as floppy as the classic regular Uggs, which I ruined by getting them really wet. They just never dried right and they look terrible now.
I think Uggs are more for fashion than for snow and slush, unless you get weather Uggs that look like work boots.

I love those. I said I am too cheap to buy Uggs but may make an exception for those:love:

I love the look of those too but I've heard a lot of people saying that they fall down the calf a lot when they're not folded down. I even passed up getting the at Nordstrom Rack because of that (for $79). Do you feel this way too? They're so cute though... ugh.

I always wore them folded down!:upsidedow I remember reading the same thing though.

Those are the ones I am getting this year with my Christmas money! I have Raynauds also, and my Uggs are the only shoes that keep my feet warm in the winter. I have the Knightsbridge style in chocolate brown. :lovestruc

Mine were bought with some Christmas money too! :) I actually had trouble FINDING them after Christmas. Dillard's searched ALL their stores and found ONE pair in my size and had them shipped to me. They were nowhere to be found online either. :scared1:

I think Raynauds is a good excuse for me to pick up another pair, don't ya think?:woohoo: I kind of like these Caspia in gravy http://www.uggaustralia.com/ProductDetails.aspx?gID=w&productID=1932&model=Caspia But need to see and try them in person!

I don't think they make your Knightsbridge anymore or either they are just out! They DO look warm and cute!

I love Uggs, but Uggs are for *show* not *snow.* :)

I was in BJs Wholesale on Friday and they were selling the Sundance II there for $169 (Nordstorms sells them for $224). Unfortunately, they didn't have my size.:sad2:

I would get the Ugg for snowless days and a waterproof boot for when it snows.

Sporto has some reasonably priced waterproof boots and they wear like iron.

I have two pairs of Emus that I LOVE! They are so comfy, and from what I've read have more arch support than Uggs do. Plus, you can often find great deals on them from Amazon (with free shipping). I got a pair for $35 on Amazon last year and Macys had the same shoes in the store for $99.

It isn't great to get them wet. I spilled something on mine and stained them while trying to clean them with water and detergent. Luckily, a suede cleaner and brush restored them a bit.

I bought BearPaw ones when I was in CT last Christmas, and a strap on them broke 4 days later. They went back to the store, and I ended up getting these from LL Bean - http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/61975?feat=61974-ppxs&dds=y

Absolutely love them, and I even wear them in CA during the winter. That being said, they don't have a whole lot of support and I would avoid wearing them too much in the snow for the reasons people previously said.
