Do you love it, hate it? Does it have the same issues with "smelly odors"? Does it clean well?

I've had a front loader for about 5 years and I've never had a "smelly" problem.

When I had a top loading washer (not HE) I never had a "smelly" problem with it, either. Leave the door open when you are done and it won't smell.

I have an HE top loader, and it doesn't have odor issues. But I do leave the lid open and the detergent drawer pulled out between uses.

I have only had top loaders and never had any kind of problem with cleaning it or smells either. Like the PP said, when not in use leave the lid open.

We just bought a new LG top loading washer and LOVE it. I really wanted a front loader but after much research we decided against it (mostly due to the stinky smell issues that seem to plague the front loaders).

Our LG HE washer is amazing. It has a glass top so you can watch it in action. There is no middle agitator so you can fit in a TON of clothing - even our king size comforter goes in with room to spare. DD16's friend stood and watched the washer yesterday - guess it was more entertaining than homework!

We got a great deal at Best Buy and ended up getting the high capacity LG washer and dryer set like this:

It sounds like a spaceship with all of the beeps and music and whirring sounds. We  it!

The dryer is nice too but we do find that if we have a full load of clothes for the washer that we sometimes have to dry the load for 2 cycles to get everything completely dry.

We just got a new GE top load HE washer (and matching dryer). No issues with any smell (didn't know that was even a potential issue). Washes great and i LOVE the little center spindle. The only thing I had to get used to was the "noise" it makes during agitation.

LOVE mine! I never leave the lid open, and have never had any issues with smells of any kind. I think the only slight problem I have with it is that even the short wash is a little longer than I would like.

The clothes are amazingly clean, and it does fit a LOT of items in it at a time.

Don't love mine at all....bought a top load HE about 2 months ago..I don't have a smell and was not aware that that was a problem with these but I do have a problem with:

My clothes getting clean when I put a regular (as in the size I would have used with my other top load not an HE) load of wash..so I'm now doing twice the loads as I would have done.

Lint that seems to appear on my clothes when I am taking them OUT of the washer (just washed) to put into the dryer..which I have found that at the bottom of the tub if I run my finger around the seam between the bottom and sides there is lint there..???

After doing a load of bleach with whites I have to run the rinse cycle twice on the whites AND wipe out the drum, otherwise I have bleach marks on my clothes in the next load.

Wrinkles wrinkles wrinkles....Have to do so much more ironing if I don't watch how large my loads are..this thing twists things so tight it is hard to unravel them. And if I put say a shower curtain in with towels....the shower curtain is wrapped around eveything and stretched tight as can be...then when I go in there the things underneath...never got clean

Holes that have appeared on some lighter fabric garments.

There is no place for fabric softener, I have to use the "Downy" ball and it sometimes doesn't empty.

Have had to go back to buying higher priced laundry detergent to get my clothes clean...the cheaper brands no longer will cut through the less water in the drum

Ok so you see I hate this washer...and if I could would go buy a regular top load washer again and will as soon as I can find some cash..which I will have to do soon cause they will probably become obsolete soon. Oh and mine is a Whirlpool which I thought to be a good brand

:headache:Exactly why we returned our GE top loading HE dryer a couple of weeks ago. The clothes seemed to be getting beaten to death! The wrinkles, the HOLES, lint, crazy. We traded for a pair of Samsung FRONT loader HE - which at first I was totally against a front loader - and I love them. No where near as rough on the clothes, much quieter - the GE was like an aircraft taking off the entire time - and as far as the smell, I leave the door open most of the time and wipe down the rubber "gasket" on the front to help prevent that potential problem. Good luck with your decision!

I have a red whirlpool. It's not listed as HE, just energy star and it is a water saver. It cleans well. It's very loud though, I mean the loudest washer I have ever used. It claims to have ultra quiet operation but no way. I've gotten used to it. The model number is WTW57ESVH

Mine has the center agitator. After looking at a lot of he top loader/energy efficent reviews, there were some complaints about the cabrios and complaints about the ones without an agitator twisting or damaging the clothes because they tangle. So I bought one with an agitator.

I have had the Fisher Paykel top loader HE for about 5 years and I really like! The only draw back is the service is pretty expensive ( I think I have had it serviced once and the dryer twice).

I've LOVE my toploading HE - a Maytag. Have had it about 5 or 6 years.

I do agree with the comment that if it is loaded too tightly - it will wrinkle the heck out of the clothes.

YES - I really hate the wrinkles and the lint!!! Glad to know it's not just me. Ugh, I am so frustrated with this thing, but it's new and I am going to have to suffer through it for a few years at least. Ugh.......

And holes? I am almost afraid to wash my sweaters in there....I better try it out on a few old ones first.

I am in the market for a new washer and dryer in the next month or so, All of my friends that have the HE washers - whether top or front loading - HATE them. Wrinkled clothes, lint, holes in clothing, smelly laundry rooms...all at extra cost!! No thanks...I've decided to go with the old-style washer with a center agitator while they are still being made. I don't know if I'll have the same option to buy one 10 years down the road.
