What was the theme? Did you play games? What else did you do? I'm looking for ideas for DS upcoming 1st birthday!party:

DS: Teddy bear 1st birthday.

I gave out stuffed teddy bears with balloons to all the kids. Basically food, cake and presents. All the kids there were basically DS's age, IMOP, a little too young to play any type of organized game.

DD: Care bears 1st Birthday theme

Gift bags for the kids with all kinds of care bear stuff, same as DD, food cake presents, socialization. Some of my DS's friends were there and we did a couple party games and a pinata mainly for them. We helped DD pull the strings on the pinata.

All had a good time at each party. I don't think alot of people expect too much of an organized party for a 1 yo. People are mainly there to see the birthday child dig into their 1st birthday cake. :)

My dd6 had the teddy bear first bday party and DD3 had the same first bday that I had Strawberry Shortcake. We did the usual pin the tail on the donkey and pinata. It was mainly a swimming party.

ETA: I wanted to do Rolie Polie Olie for dd6's first bday b/c she loved the show, for her second bday we did bear in the big blue house.

We had a monkey theme, it was so cute!
I made monkey invitations:

Here is the cake I made. I got the directions off of Martha Stewart website.

The banana peels are just felt cut out and hot glued together.
We had a bean bag toss. I painted a box to look like a monkey face and the bean bags were bananas. You tossed it into the monkey's mouth.

Ds wore a Gymboree outfit that had bananas on it (safari looking).

We named all the food funny names too. I can't remember what though. :confused3

We just had a party = no games - no theme.

I think this is the cutest thing I've ever seen!!!! What are on the cupcakes? Are they runt bananas?

The Monkey Cake (and invites) are adorable. I love it.

My DS and DD's didn't attend their first birthday parties (we were waiting to adopt them). We had a party, but no theme. They like to look at the photos though, and know we were thinking about them on their big day. :)

We did trains for my son. I made a train cake. just made 4 mini loafs and cut one in half to put on top to create the engine and caboose, on the one flat car I used log looking cookies to create a log car. Oreo's for wheels. Got the idea from a parenting magazine. For party favors/decorations I tied baloons to little elmo cars (mostly trains but couldn't find enough) from walmart. I think the table cloth/plates may have been thomas but it wasn't a thomas theme.

For my dd we did blues clues (with a barbie cake made by a friend...I just had to since I had a barbie cake for my first birthday and wanted to do pics in the scrapbook together) for her little cake I just bought a plain individual cake and stuck a steve figure on top. Also at her birthday there were several kids all turning one at about the same time. Her birthday present was one of those small jungle gyms and I put that in the living room for the kids to play on. Favors were red plastic cups and yellow plastic spoons with faces painted on them (with some little things inside) to look like shovel and pail. We also had a platter out of the finger foods the newly turned/turning 1 year olds ate - cherios, gerber snacks, you know that kind of thing.

We didn't do organized activity for the first 3 years, the kids play we cut cake and eat do presents and everyone leaves.

DS's birthday was frogs. We just did cake and presents. I'm not so sure games are necessary for a 1 year old. This year, he'll be three, so we will do some games.
Here was the cake that he was able to "play in"

Pooh ~ 1st b'day theme. It was a family party, so just picnic food, followed by cake and ice cream. No games, the older kids (2 siblings, 2 friends) just played in the backyard.

we did Peter Rabbit for DS#1's 1st bday and Bees as the theme for DS#2's.

The bee party was so cute. I had balck and yellow tulle draped around. I had the invites made and then had labels for candy bars as favors. I also made boo boo bunnies out of wash clothes.

The main cake was a bee hive with bees flying around and honey oozing out of the top.

I had 2 other choc cakes we bees on top of them. one for DS to play in and another to eat.

DS wore a black/white checked outfit with a appliqued bee on it a friend made him for the party

We ate pizza and no games since it was a Wed night. Church/school the next day. It was family only

I loved the monkey themed party. that was an awesome cake

We did Mickey. No games, then again it was just my parents and aunt and uncle and 1 8 year old.

No, you could use those though. I used fondant (made my own from marshmallows). Shaped them and then painted a little brown food coloring on the tips. Everyone was freaking out about them but, they were really easy.

Mindy, The frog is so cute! My little guy is named RYLAN too!

We did a rubber ducky b-day party! Very fun We did the rubber ducky cake with blue cupcakes like water. The invitation was on blue and white gingham paper with yellow ducky stickers. Rub a dub dub come join us in celebrating Clara-Cate's 1rst birthday etc... We don't play games at this age, but I do have our parties at our church and bring out all the riding toys slides and the kids just play. You don't have to entertain at this age. Enjoy it while you can!

I also always for all my children buy a nice sweet looking journal and put it out for everyone to offer good wishes. prayers, etc. My kids love to look back on it and see what people have said. For the older kids I only put it out at the family party.

My DS will turn 1 on Friday. We are having a Mickey theme with family only. We are grilling burgers with cake and ice cream for dessert. He has a Mickey firefighter cake. I will have to post picutures this weekend.

DD#1 had a rocking horse theme and it was really cute (stupid me forgot to take a picture of her cake):sad1:

DD#2 had a strawberry shortcake theme..WALMART CAKE (((yuck)) Our house looked like a big bottle of Pepto ..everything was PINK!!!!!

I make all their cakes now and I make all our friends and families cakes too so now I have LOTS of pictures of cakes...LOL

We just had a party = no games - no theme.

Same here - I'm incredibly uncreative and do not enjoy party planning. It's hard enough for me to remember to make sure there is food & cake LOL! DS will be 1 on May 31st so his birthday party will always fall on the same day as our Memorial Day picnic. Maybe not so exciting, but at least he gets a party to kick off summer!!

DD#1 had a Bear in the Big Blue House party. It was just friends and family, no gift bags or games. DD#2 had an Elmo/Sesame Street party. We had pizza, chips, small gift bags and a bouncy castle because of my older DD and all her friends.
