We have never flown with this airline but it is the cheapest option right now for our Dec. trip. Looking for info about how solid their flights are when you book. With United and Southwest I have only had schedule changes once. I don't want to fight that. Any other info would be great!

TY!!!

We fly USAirways quite a bit --- it is dominant at PHL and hard to ignore!;). We've only experienced flight changes at the beginning of the month and then only rarely.

I will say we flew them into Orlando yesterday and the service from beginning to end was flawless (except for turbulence, but you can't have everything!).

I've never had any flight changes with them. That's just my experience. I can tell that they have a large fleet of various types of aircraft, and depending on your airport you may be on a smaller plane that takes you to a hub like CLT or PHL first. PHI seems to have more tiny planes, at least from my airport.
When I say small plane, I mean as small as 20 seats, or perhaps a Canadair jet of various sizes. From the hub to MCO will most likely be a larger plane, 3x3 seating, etc.

They are stingy on in-flight entertainment (their fleet is older) unless in larger planes, and most still don't have wifi that I'm aware of. They are bit more expensive when it comes to luggage (25 and 35 1st and 2nd bags). They let you pick a seat like all other airlines (except SW) and I don't think there is an option to pay for that, but in some cases I think you can't see your seat assignment until check in or they assign you a seat that you can't change until check in.

They do a fine job, and are usually my back up if Airtran doesn't go there, as they have a very large list of places they go....including many smaller airports.

We've flown US Air for the past 3-4 trips and have never had any trouble, changes, cancellations, nothing. I just booked my flight with them for my Oct. trip and they have the best fare and some nonstop flights which is what we prefer. :thumbsup2

I flew US Airways on the trip I'm on now. The flight down was great, on time and everything. Didn't have any schedule changes.

I have stopped flying USAirways. Maybe it was just my bad luck, but there have been three trips that I have had to stay overnight because I missed my connection. All three of them were with USAirways.

There was another time it too my family 18 hours to get from Boston to Florida. My daughter was under 2 at the time. We somehow missed our connecting flight, but they sent her checked car seat to the airport, but sent us to another airport. The details are a bit fuzzy, but I just remember them giving us a real hard time and the customer service people were not very nice.

USAirways Corp ended up giving us extra vouchers for a later flight which was nice, but at the time it made us really stressed.

The straw that broke the camel's back for us was with the last time that I flew them. They ripped the handle right off my double stroller. I know that things like that could happen with other airlines, but there was nothing they could do about it at the time. Then when I got home, I got the run around about who was going to be able to help me.

Needless to say, I don't fly them anymore. Good luck if you go. I am sure there are lots of people who have no problems. We were just not meant to be.

I flew on USAir in May to Dallas. It may depend on where you are located because all of our USAir flights were operated by United. I found that USAir was much cheaper than United for the same flight!

That said, I did have an issue as they cancelled my flight and booked me on another flight 4 hours later. This was a couple months in advance. The issue I have is that I did not receive a call nor an email telling me about the change. I had to notice it when I was checking my flight info. To further complicate matters, they did have another flight that was at a similar time to my original flight (and had plenty of seats) but they refused to put me on it because the fare I paid was not high enough! This other flight was a smaller plane and apparently demanded a much higher fare in order to sit on it! I ended up accepting the changes they gave me but I was not happy - I felt that if they were going to cancel my flight, I should be given a similar time, if available, no matter what fare I paid.

Complaining aside, the flight was fine and on time. I am sure you will be just fine but thought I would throw my experience out there. I really prefer to just fly Southwest.

USAir is my absolute last resort airline - we've had issues on every single flight we've been on with USAir in the last 4 years - flights for business and vacation. I'm at the point where i'll fly with them only as an absolute last resort - i've driven to Newark and to BWI and flown out of there before i've selected a USAir flight recently. If everything aligns for you, you may have no issues, just make sure you watch your flight schedules and seating assignments regularly if you book with USAir.

Wondering how fussy they are about carry on bags? We almost always fly Southwest and haven't flown US Air in about 4 years. We have 2 totes (kind of duffle like but not really LOL). They measure about 22" across and 19" high but are smushable. Here is what one of them looks like (sorry the pic is so big...not sure how to make smaller).

Do you think we will have any problem using them as carryons? We have used them in the past with Southwest with no issues but not sure how strict US Air will be. Thanks!!

As long as the bag fits into the little demo cube that they show you while checking in; then you're fine. That bag looks like it would fit.

I've had mixed issues with USAir. If your flight is being handled by one of their interim airlines, I've had issues. If it's run by the actual USAir, then I was fine. The only bright spot with using them vs going to a smaller airport (ABE) is that they usually have many flights to put you on if you miss one. Plus from PHL to MCO is one of their standard corridors so they usually manage to get people there on time!

It pays to know which airlines have which hubs as their prices usually reflect that as do their service records. :moped:

We flew them once in May. It was actually a US Airways flight through United somehow? Therefore we were not able to check-in online and had to do it at the airport at United instead of US. The flight itself was OK and didn't change times on us but we had a bad experience with the crew. We were told that there was no room for carryons unless they went under your seat for the back 20 rows and that we had to check them at the gate. When we got on the plane there was tons of room and we were not happy at that point. The flight crew also didn't seem real friendly or happy. Could have just been a fluke thing but we were disappointed overall on our experience.

Did you check the US Airway's website? The accepted carry-on bag measurements are right there. According to that, your bag is too large, but if you can smash it down 4 inches, it will fit.

I'm not a big USAirways fan. I hate that for long flights they took away the in flight entertainment and also no free pretzels or peanuts. For awhile they were charging for soft drinks and water but went back to free when no other legacy airline followed. When I fly to California, I prefer Delta and look for a flight that has personal TV's and they always have free choice of snacks (peanuts, pretzels, biscoff cookies :goodvibes). Their flight attendents seem nicer.

United and USAirways are both part of Star Alliance, which means they can sell each other's flights. It makes it easier when you need to connect to a city that the other doesn't serve, plus miles can be credited to either.

I did see the measurements. We can definitely smash it down. It would never be full and whatever is in it would be squishy stuff anyway. We have used it with no issues on Southwest but in general they seem more "user friendly" than some other airlines. But then again, I never really noticed Southwest even glancing at our bags.
