My BF and I are headed to WDW for a week in July. Our trip is going to be laid back and flexible. Given the heat in July, we thought a day at a water park would be fun, and settled on Typhoon Lagoon. I have never visited a Disney water park before, so tell me everything you know! Is there a day of the week that is best? How do we get there? Can we reserve chairs? Is there a time of day that is best? I can imagine that in July things will get busy and crowded, so looking for strategies to avoid crazy crowds as much as possible. Thanks!

It's fun, but Blizzard Beach is even more fun!

However, if you choose TL, get there at RD to get a covered spot. Crush 'n' Gusher is awesome, as is Shark Reef. Wear a life vest in SR even if you're a great swimmer. The vest allows you to slowly float along, making for a better/longer snorkeling experience.

My family and I did Typhoon Lagoon for the first time last summer and are hooked! We loved it. To get there, you can take a bus from your on-property resort. It's not hard, at all. Try to get there as early as possible for the best spots and lowest crowds. Weekdays tend to be less crowded than weekends. Crowds have have always been smaller at the water parks than at the other parks when we have gone and compared to Schlitterbahn here, the waits were always minimal. Be cautious on the wave pool. It's the same wave pool that they use to teach surf lessons so the waves are pretty powerful. Plus, the bottom is really rough so it's not uncommon for people to get knocked off their feet and get scraped up on their legs, arms, or backs. We were also really pleasantly surprised at the amount of shade as we walked around. Still use lots of sunscreen or wear a rash guard. I was particularly fond of the tube rides such as Gangplank Falls, Mayday Falls, and Keelhaul Falls. I love that you don't have to try to find a tube as soon as you get to the park and then lug it around with you all day and then have to find a place to store it while you go down a body slide. I've been to water parks where that was the case. Silly as it might sound, the music really made the atmosphere that much more fun. Gosh, I'm getting jealous of you just thinking about going to Typhoon Lagoon. Have a great time!

You need to be there at opening to get a shady spot and avoid weekends.

I love TL! Best advice is get there for rope drop and go on slides first thing! Went last year in May, did not reserve anything but got there 10-15 min before rope drop. We headed right in for chairs and umbrella, didn't realize we were at the edge of a smoking area :scared: but decided to stay put as we had four chairs and a large shade umbrella near trees. The smoking turned out not to be an issue, very few smokers were there and didn't smoke near us. We were close to the wave pool and Crusher Gusher. We did many runs on Crusher right away with NO WAIT! Then DD and I did the lazy river, not crowded at all. Boys headed to bigger slides and did them with little to no wait. Then we all went and did family slide and tube slide, lazy river again (starting to get crowded). Headed to chairs to sun for half hour and dry up before lunch. After lunch sun and wave pool. Cold adult beverages in the shade before heading out around 3:30. Hope you have a fun day at TL. We like it a lot better than BB.

You can reserve chairs but it costs extra. Don't quote me on this but reserving an umbrella table with two lounge chairs is something like $50 for the day and reserving a cabana with 4 (?) chairs, towels, a mini fridge with bottled water, and lunch is something crazy like $350 for the day. This is all in addition to your park ticket.

While some people like them, I really feel it's unnecessary. Just show up at rope drop, go stake out your spot on some lounge chairs first thing, and you will be fine.

Awesome! I just have to convince my BF to get there early so we can snag some lounge chairs in the shade since he wants to sleep in every day, but hopefully I can lure him there with the promise of an afternoon nap back at the hotel.
What's the towel situation? We are staying at GF - can we grab some towels from our room or the resort pool to take? Are there towels at TL? Are there plenty of places to get an adult beverage? Can we leave our stuff on our chairs and roam around or go on the lazy river? We won't take a lot with us, just the essentials, but would hate to have things go missing if we leave our towels or sunscreen sitting on loungers. How do you carry your wallet/room key? Do magic bands work at the water park too for all your purchases? So many questions, but I am getting more excited!

I think the water parks open at 10. I'm not sure what your BF considers sleeping in but you don't have to get up early to get to the water parks by rope drop.

You can rent towels at the water parks for $2 or so I think. Alternatively, I believe you can grab a couple towels from your resort pool to take with you.

There are a few places to get an adult beverage.

Some people have reported having problems leaving things on a lounge chair unattended but in the few dozen times I have been we have never had an issue at all. If you are uncomfortable with that they have lockers you can rent but then you won't have anything to mark your lounge chair territory.

Some people use little water proof cases to hold their room keys and some cash but I imagine with the advent of magic bands those won't be used nearly as much anymore.

I love TL! There is an opportunity to "swim" (more like float over) sharks there! You can use the lazy river to get to different rides, so not walk too much! Don't bring too many valuables with you, or rent a locker. And check the weather before you go!...if there is any chance of lightening, they have to get you out of the water, and there is very little covered space to get under.

My #1 tip: put your things (dry clothes) in plastic bags on your chair, so they don't end up sandy or wet if rain starts!

1) Just like any Disney park you can get so much more done first thing in the morning, before the crowds and lines build. So do your best to convince your BF to go fairly early. The water parks generally open at 9:00 am in July, I think. No need to get there a whole bunch earlier than opening, though. Usually aren't long lines at park opening at the water parks.

2) I've aways rented towels ($2 each) so I don't have to bring wet towels back to the resort.

3) For valuables (cell phone, wallet, etc.), I always rent a locker. I don't worry about leaving non-valuables (towels, water bottle, sunscreen) on my beach chair. I also put my bag with dry clothes into the locker. They're $10/day (plus a $5 refundable deposit) for a large locker, and $8 per day for a small locker. If you go to another park the same day, keep your locker receipt, and you won't have to pay again (except for the $5 refundable key deposit).

4) Several places to eat, and a few with "adult beverages." We had good food at Leaning Palms. Good pulled pork sandwich!

5) Your Magic Band will work at the water parks. You can wear them (MBs) in the water; they're waterproof.

6) Bring a good waterproof sunscreen like Coppertone Sport Spray.

7) Lots of folks wear some kind of water shoe on the slides, but I haven't found them necessary.

8) There are often afternoon showers in July. They won't close the waterparks unless there's lightning in the area, but that happens more than you's think. That's another reason to go n the morning rather than the afternoon!

9) I'd recommend going during the week rather than the weekends. Lots of Orlando locals have annual water park passes, and the water parks tend to be more crowded on the weekends when loals are off work.

10) I don't think it would be necessary to rent chairs and an umbrella if you get there first thing in the morning. Just try to pick a spot were you can have some shade later in the day (remember the sun shifts s the day goes on).

11) There's a place with really yummy min-donuts. Be sure to go there!

12) I love TL! They have a great lazy river. As someone else mentioned, watch yourself in the wave pool, because you can easily get knocked off your feet and scraped up.

Have a wonderful time!
