Tell me about Trader Sam's Tiki Bar...

We will be staying at the DLH next week (yahoo!) and since this is a grown-ups only trip we want to try out Trader Sam's. I have heard it's an "immersive experience" and was wondering if anyone could give me details.

I've read some reviews of the food but I haven't heard much about the place itself.

I took my DD (8) and DS (9) for lunch last November. The "interactive" part happens when certain drinks are ordered: a volcano erupts, it "rains", or a ship sinks. The restaurant itself offers a lot of eye candy--from the moving tiki eyes to the punny jokes on the walls. My kids enjoyed the flat breads. I ordered the fish and chips at Tangaroa Terrace and had them deliver it to Trader Sam's. I believe the rules here are like the Cove Bar in that children under 21 are welcome as long as they don't sit at the bar. The place is small, but that wasn't a problem for us as we travel in the off season. Have fun!

Sorry to jump in, but thanks for the great news! I thought it was an adults-only place, so haven't been able to give it a try yet. The food looks pretty good, I've been wanting to give it a try, and now it looks like we can!

I was on a girls only trip last month and the 4 of us LOVED Trader Sam's! So many fun drinks to pick from and the food was good too. We didn't know you could order from Tangaroa Terrace and have it delivered there. I'll remember that for next time, because we'll be going back for sure!

It's so much fun there. Go when you have some time to just kick back and relax a bit. There are fantastic cocktails and the food is quite good.

We went twice our last trip. The bartenders are fantastic. Not just kinda good, like out of this world good. Funny guys, very interactive.

Do you best to sit at the bar, NOT a table. That's all I'm gonna say. The bar experience is different.

Trader Sam's is so much fun! The bartenders are the best and they really make the whole experience. There is so much to look at and to experience there. Be careful where you sit at the bar! Take some time to look at all the stuff on the walls and behind the bar, so many inside jokes!

It is my understanding that after 8pm, there are no children allowed inside Trader Sam's. Perhaps others have had different experiences? You can sit outside, which is nice, but not the same as being inside. Many times they have live music outside.
