I am bringing two vegetarians with me to WDW. Although buffets are never a problem, I have concerns about our other ADRs.

Any vegetarians out there ever eat dinner at:

Maya Grill
Sci-Fi
Rose N Crown

They are not crazy about fish but eat eggs, milk, tuna, clams, mussles, shrimp, and gravy.

If you called ahead for your party, how far in advance and whom did you speak to?:confused3

if you get a chance to go to planet hollywood .....they make a great portebella mushroom burger ......our son in law had it and it was HUGE

Rose and Crown had my absolute favorite vegetarian meal of our entire 10 day trip--so much so that we cancelled another reservation just to go back there again.

The cheese plate appetizer was huge--before DDP, I used to order this as my entree with a salad for an appetizer. Several kinds of delicious cheeses, nuts, fruit. Man, I could go for one of those right now.

Last year's entree was a puff pastry with mustard curry sauce (or something like that). It was outstanding and, again, huge. The entree is now a vegetable pot pie, but I'm sure it's delicious, too.

Then there was the sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Oh, that sticky toffee pudding. It's not pudding like we're used to in the US, but more of a cake, and it's to die for.

Last time I ate a meal at sci-fi, I don't remember anything vegetarian on the menu, but they how have a seared tofu with mango glaze and vegetables over rice that sounds really good. Last time we went to Sci-Fi, we stopped in for a snack, and it turned out to be one of my favorite dining experiences. All I had was a dinner salad, but I was alone with my 2 kids, they sat in the front seat, I got the middle seat to myself, and it was heaven. The kids loved watching the movies and "driving the car" so much that I could have had a bowl of stale pretzels and I still would have loved it just for the blissful hour of peace and quiet after a long EMH morning!

Sci-fi had a veggie burger that I really enjoyed.
Was this on the menu or did you have to specially request it? Just wondering because I remember having trouble finding something I wanted to eat at Sci Fi.

I haven't really had a hard time finding vegetarian food at Disney and I am VERY picky. I know you said you're not worried about buffets but I just wanted to mention that Boma was my favorite meal as a vegetarian! I also found that if I was having trouble it always helped to ask to speak to the chef. If there wasn't something on the menu I would eat they would find me something. They are extremely accomodating.

Boma is my fav in all of WDW.

I know the buffet are really good about having other options. I just hate the idea of constant buffets. Right now we already have Cape May, Crystal Palace and Boma.

Has anyone ever called the TS ahead of time? I really don't want my family stuck with mushroom sandwiches while the rest of us meat eaters pig out. I see sandwiches more for CS.

My Mom, head veggie, requested the Rose n Crown. I'm glad PP was happy with the choices.

I have called ahead, I avoid mushrooms. So the few places the veggie entree was mushroom based I called ahead and talked to someone at the ts. This was wonderful at Coral Reef, not at Le Cellier. The chef made me a wonderful dish, it was the best at Coral Reef. We just loved it there, at Le Cellier I had the option of the tomato stack, the ceasar salad and dessert. I was starving when I got there and pretty hungry when I left. It is no longer a must do for us, I know its a steak house and the only veggie option had been a portabella dish.

If they eat seafood, they'll have zero problems. You don't even have to call. I don't eat meat, seafood or chicken and I love love loved Sci Fi. They made me a special tofu dish (we just walked in at lunch). All the restaurants have veggie burgers available, not always on the menu. It's a lot easier to find nice vegetarian entrees at WDW than it was 10 years ago, that's for sure.:hippie: Except at Spoodles, I'm mad at them.

The only time I called ahead was for 'Ohana (because it's family style), but I've since heard that really isn't necessary, because they have a standard vegetarian dish that's always available (along with kids' items like chicken strips and mac n cheese). Unless there's a fairly common vegetable (mushrooms or peppers) that someone can't or won't eat, I don't think you need to worry about calling ahead.

For CS in the parks, there's Sunshine Seasons in the Land building in Epcot. It's set up like a food court, and they have several different vegetarian choices. In the MK there's Columbia Harbor House, and they have vegetarian chili along with a vegetarian sandwich with hummus and broccoli slaw. At AK there's a vegetarian sandwich at Tusker House, but I think that will be closed, so there's a fruit and yogurt plate at Flame Tree BBQ. At MGM there's a vegetable noodle stir fry and a tabbouleh wrap at ABC Commissary. These are just a few examples.

Here is a link to an article about vegetarian dining at WDW. This site also has several other articles about being vegetarian at WDW, and menus for all the restaurants to find things that everyone might like. Just try not to get too set on any one menu item, as they do change periodically, especially since I noticed you're going during free dining. So are we--see you there! :wave2:

Glad to hear you liked the tofu dish at Sci Fi--I'm looking forward to trying it!

And Spoodles? Do tell! After our experience last year with both a rude server and ruder chef, it's the one place dh said he'll never, ever go back to.

We just had a great experience at Spoodles. My friend is a vegetarian and there didn't really seem to be any vegetarian entrees on the menu. Also, I have a child with food allergies, so we needed to speak with the chef. When the chef came to our table to discuss my DD's dinner options, he also talked to my friend and asked what veggies she liked and what she didn't. He ended up making her something that wasn't even on the menu and she said it was the best meal she had ever had! We can't wait to go back there next year.

I just had a great experience at Spoodle's too and would definitely go back there as a vegetarian! I am extremely picky and allergic to bell peppers. Bell peppers are in many vegetarian dishes. :sad2: The chef made me gnocci with a tomato basil cream sauce. It was soooo good! He also offered to modify any of the pasta entrees to be vegetarian. They have really good flatbreads and salads as well.

I'm vegetarian and the Rose and Crown has my favorite vegetarian dish in the parks--root vegetable pot pie! It's delish!
