We are looking to travel to The World next Oct 2021, and are seriously looking at The Swan. I know there is no magical express, magic bands or dining plan. We have plenty of bands, so we can just use those once our new tickets are linked for our park entry and fast pass, correct?
I keep reading about resort fees, but if I book on the WDW website are they included? Because I’m not seeing anything about extra charges due at the resort.
Do they offer the airline check in for luggage, or do we need to take luggage with us back to the airport?
How did they handle the closure, did Disney move Swolphin guests to another property that was open?
Anything else you can think of that I need to be aware of?
This would be our first time out of “the bubble” Thank you!

If you enter your theme park info into MDE, you can use your Magic Bands for park entry.

Disney got rid of Fastpass for post-Covid reopening. No word on if or when they will return.

Last I heard, Major League Soccer will be using Swan and Dolphin. I don’t know when those hotels reopen for the public. I haven’t seen anyone post about being moved from there.

There is a Swan/Dolphin thread here. They probably can help you.

You need to arrange your own transportation between the resort and airport and take you luggage with you.

The Swan/Dolphin are not Disney operated hotels, they operate under different Marriott brands (Swan is Westin, Dolphin is Sheraton).

Resort Fee is not included in your booking via Disney or even at Marriott and it is $30 + tax but some posted information has indicated that it has increased to $35 + tax

No Airline check-in and you will have to take your bags and plan your own return to the airport.

Marriott actually closed the Dolphin first and consolidated remaining guests into the Swan and then finally closed the Swan after the parks closed.

The Swan & Dolphin will are hosting the MLS Soccer teams this summer. The resort should reopen for regular guests on July 29th and beyond.

Here is a link with some additional information from Marriott.

Hi, I've stayed at both the Swan and Dolphin a few times (I posted a review on TripAdvisor a few weeks ago of my stay at the Dolphin earlier this year). While I'm fairly sure there won't be any NBA players there when you go in October 2021, none of us (even Disney execs at this point) know how long all the restrictions, limitations, etc. will stay in effect.

I really enjoy these properties overall. You're just steps away from the Boardwalk area, you have a ferry in front of the hotel that goes to the Boardwalk resorts, Epcot and DHS. If you're up for it you can walk to Epcot or DHS. Buses go to MK and AK, water parks and Disney Springs. The amenities (except in the lobby areas) and most common areas and rooms are frankly dated and do need renovations. The pools, playgrounds, beach areas, etc. are all nice but again are a bit dates. There are multiple high quality (but expensive) restaurants in both hotels, and a few coffee shops and things like that. The Dolphin has a budget, 24-hour cafeteria style restaurant that is affordable too. There is also the character breakfast there on the weekends that's lots of fun for the kids. In the pre-Covid world you get Fast Passes 60 days in advance too if you put your reservation # in the DIsney system. They also used to send in-park purchases to the Swan gift shop, but my understanding is that they stopped they service for the post-Covid opening situation next month.

A lot of the guests at these hotels are there for Conventions, so in the common spaces you won't get as much of a "Disney" vibe as you would at most other Disney hotels. Many of us prefer that but some don't like that and get annoyed seeing people in suits talking business everywhere.

If you travel a bit a good thing about staying in these hotels is that they're owned by Marriott so you get or can use their rewards points. While it's true that you don't get Magical Express, consider how much cheaper it is and/or how much nicer it is compared to "Disney" hotels that cost the same price per night. Uber/Lyft is about $25-30 each way to/from MCO if you want to factor that in, but remember that if you book a ride you get a trip nonstop from the curbside to your hotel minutes after you request the ride as opposed to waiting at MCO for your bus, waiting for other guests at other resorts to be dropped off, etc.

If the Disney transportation amenities stay as limited as they are set to be next month, the pools and bars are closed, etc., the parks have all the restrictions, closures, etc., I frankly wouldn't recommend the Swan or Dolphin (for me honestly I don't plan to go until it's back to the way it was earlier this year). In that case you might as well stay off property (where you can get so much more bang for your buck so to speak) and be in either a much cheaper hotel or something much fancier/newer for the same price. Your time frame is so far out that, as long as you book a refundable reservation, I wouldn't worry. Assuming things are more or less back to normal by 10/21, if you can get a good rate I really do recommend the Swan and Dolphin. Honestly if WDW still has all these restrictions in October 2021, I really don't know that it would be viable. Feel free to message me or ask me any questions and I'm happy to give an honest/unbiased answer.

the Swan/Dolphin Resort is the best-kept secret at WDW. Immaculate property with lots of pools and three 5 star restaurants. Located on the Boardwalk.
I have an AP and have stayed at all the deluxe resorts. I like my Marriott perks. No magical express...transport your luggage...other than that it's all Disney.

Thanks everyone. We have previously stayed at the BC, and BWV. The Epcot area is where we really want to be, but looking at Sept ‘21 pricing (as I can’t see Oct yet) it is really getting out of hand.
If I decide to go with Swan, I would book through the Disney site and get a package with tickets. It truly is WAY cheaper, even adding in the resort fees.
The loss of the magical express and dining plan, if available, are not deal breakers, if it gets us into walking distance to 2 parks, fast passes and extra magic hours.
I appreciate the honest responses. Any and all are still welcome!
Thanks !

I love the Swan and Dolphin. It is actually our favorite resort. You get transportation to and from the parks, you will be considered disney World Resort Guest’s for the earlier booking window, and they have much better restaurants. Also, there is a 24 hour cafeteria style restaurant with refillable mugs. This has always been a big deal for us at least. That is located in the dolphin. The rooms tend to be quieter than disney rooms...I remember other people flushing toilets in Animal Kingdom Lodge and waking me up. Plus, you get most of the benefits except magical express without the price. Always check if you can get a better price directly with Marriott. If you can, you can still link your reservation to your magic band for park entry and fastpasses And emh if they are available then. I enjoy the beds. and the pools tend to be less crowded since it has many conventions. But, you can’t beat the location. There is no magic express...but check rental car prices so you can stop at a grocery store or Walmart for food and drinks and then drop off the car at the dolphin so you don’t need to pay for parking. They used to handle National car rentals and I think someone else too. You can always check the web site.
