We've tried just about every restaurant at WDW but never here -- is it cute? Is it the food good. We're suckers for a theme; is there much of one here?

DD17 and I love the food there. We usually eat a couple times there on each trip. I've never been to a real pub so I can't vouch for the authenticity but I like the decor and I do feel like I'm in an old english pub (or what I imagine it would be like). The food is not exotic but it is well prepared "homey" type food!

The decor is English Pub. I think it's a good likeness, but just from movies and TV... you'll have to get a Brit to chime in to know for sure.

We enjoy the food. I thought it was pretty authentic... but again, just an American opinion.
It is simple fare, you can see the menu on the Dis restaurant guide. http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningdetail.cfm?Restaurant.ID=128

The beer however can't be beat!! Make mine a Black & Tan!!

I thought the decor was very nice. It felt British to me, but I'm not from the UK either. The food in the dining room was excellent. I had the steak and fish, and both were outstanding, and I don't eat fish much. The chocolate guiness cake was my favorite dessert from the trip. My dad, myself and youngest brother thought R&C was the second best meal of the trip behind Le Cellier, while my mom and other brother ranked R&C #1. I don't know what my sisters and sister-in-law thought.

Okay, so now it looks like I need a ADR for R&C too! :cool1: So many places to eat, so little tummy space!

I just looked at the menu-the steak with fish and chips sounds so delicious. Is it enough to share? My DM and I usually share meals on the DDP since we don't normally eat appies, entree, and dessert at meals. Anyone shared it or had leftovers? What's the best appetizer and dessert? TIA

Now for a Brit's opinion! :thumbsup2 We enjoyed a lovely meal at Rose & Crown on our last trip, great food and a nicely themed setting with good service too. The portions were a good size, we couldn't manage dessert.
We were lucky enough to get a table right on the patio to view Illuminations which made it all the more special. We have booked another ADR there for our next trip.

We went for the first time last fall, and it turned out to be one of our best meals. The CM who served our table was so friendly and pleasant, and the food was excellent - everyone enjoyed it. All the "menfolk" ordered the "Yard of Ale" and found it definitely enhanced the meal!

For another fun pub experience, do try Raglan Road. The food was outstanding, the restaurant itself quite stunning, and the entertainment lively!

Pubs over here come in all shapes, sizes, styles, etc. I'd say the Rose and Crown is a fair, modern replica of a 'nice' British pub. You'll have to visit us to sample the real thing. :) There are some truly excellent ones in and around London for a start. :thumbsup2
I wouldn't say that the beers on sale at the R&C are the best you'll find in the UK. They are big name brands - Bass ale, Boddingtons ale, Harp lager, Stella Artois (a lager from Belgium!), Tennents lager, Strongbow cider, and Guinness stout. In the UK ale is not chilled as much as it is at the R&C either. That's not to say that we drink it warm (yuk!), just that to keep its taste an ale / bitter is best kept in a cool dark cellar and not refigerated.
Er...sorry to rabbit on, but we take our pubs and beer seriously ;) I'll get off my soapbox now. :guilty:

I have to mention that staff in genuine British pubs tend not to dress as they do at R&C!

:sunny:

We enjoyed our meal there (Chicken Pasty) If you like sharp cheeses, you really have to try the cheese and fruit plate. It's very nice inside, and the service is wonderful!!

Funny, all Rose and Crown cast members assure me that that is exactly how they dress at home. I have often seen them dressed that way at Perkin (in Crossroads) late at night. :)
