Tell me about the Disneyland Express from LAX

Trying to avoid the too long of a van ride on Super Shuttle. Last trip we got on a van at midnight and didn't get to hotel until after 3 am!! They packed the van with 5 of us and several parties going to all the beach cities (private residences).

My plane arrives at 11:05 pm Sunday night.
I think the last bus of the day is at midnight???

Anyone else use the bus? Do you buy tickets somewhere or does the driver charge the credit card?

Haven't decided if I will use it on way back to LAX. My plane leaves at 12:30 am on Friday, the busses stop earlier in the day right??

I'd like to hear about people's experiences as well. And do they drop you off at your hotel? And pick you up, or do you have to meet them somewhere? What if your first night's hotel is not the same as your last? How long does it usually take?

We have used the bus a couple of times, but prefer super shuttle or a rental car. The bus does take you to your hotel, but it also takes about 50 other people to their hotels! It is a large bus,with a bathroom, like a grayhound style bus. It has a set route. The Disney hotels are first, then it goes out from there. The ride to the hotel isnt as bad at the ride back to the airport. For the ride back it picks up for LAX and SNA airports at all the hotels (good neighbor). It then takes them all to a centeral point where they divide them up by airport. Some people dont mind, we didnt like it.

This link (from the link I posted earlier) https://secure.coachamerica.com/photos/brochures/Disney Anaheim Concrete_r1.pdf will give you the schedule. You'll have to look for your hotel and airport. To LAX you'll want to allow about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to the airport depending on hotel. You'll want to a get there about 2 hours early- so you are looking at allowing 3- 3 1/2 hours. SNA you'll allow 1/2 to 1 hour, plus the 2 hours early.

I had a group of 5 on our last trip.. this time it's just me Going solo!

If I had a group I would just pay the extra for exclusive on the Super Shuttle, too pricey for just me. Guess I will decide when I get to the airport. If anything I will refuse a Super Shuttle if it is going to several cities before heading to Anaheim.

The late arrival is what caused the super long ride, they packed the van up to be cost effective.. not thinking of the guests.

Linda, why do you prefer Super Shuttle?

My son and I will be going from LAX to GC but don't want to do a rental car. Many years ago I did the Super Shuttle with our sons to the Marriott and it was a real pain. We circled LAX until the van filled up and then hit several hotels before ours. I was considering a taxi but the Disneyland Express doesn't sound bad at all?

We've never shared our super shuttle van with more then two other groups. The trip from SNA never takes long. The bus has 50+ people on it. If your hotel is at the end of the list it could take a lot of drops before you get to where you are going. At each stop the driver has to get out and open the bottom of the bus for bagage claim. Then there is the issue of transfering buses to get to the right airport on the way back. I just dont think its worth the couple dollars you save on the bus.

Anyway, if you dont lke going to mulitiple stops with SS, the bus won't help you at all! We havent used the bus since our trip in May 2000.

Oh the other thing I dont like- you can't use childrens car seats or booster seats on the bus.

But with the bus at least you KNOW that it will stop at the Anaheim hotels near the park.
If you have an odd arrival time, early morning or late evening, the chances are high that you may be routed all over Southern California before you even reach Anaheim when using Super Shuttle.

I see by the bus schedule they allow 15 to 20 minutes between each hotel. On the ride from the airport, it might be a shorter time to drop off if no one is going to that hotel.. right?
I'm thinking on the midnight run from LAX ,on a Sunday, there just might not be a big crowd waiting to go.

Just got home today and we utilized the Resort Express. It was convenient, fast and we had no problems. It picked us up at DLH at 6:50 a.m., left the hotel at 7 a.m. chart and we were at LAX in 40 min. Noone on our bus had to stop at John Wayne either. I will use them again when we go in a heart beat.

That's good to hear. Did you make reservations in advance? Or just show up? Was it easy to find at the airport?

I bought the vouchers in advance with my WDTC package. Very easy to find once we exited LAX terminal. You can't miss the bus with its Disneyland paint job.

Thanks, Linda. But if I understood your other post correctly, the first drop is at the Grand Californian? We might not need the return trip as my husband may get a rental when he arrives a day or so later. And we will be landing at LAX because I could get 2 across seating on UA to LAX but not on any airline I checked to SNA. SNA is so much nicer but for a 4 hour flight, I'll take the better seating over an easier airport.

I believe the Disneyland hotel is first, then the GC. See the link I posted with the times and schedule, it should clarify it for you.

Back to my earlier post- another thing I didnt mention was the timing of the bus. If you have a morning flight or a late evening flight, the bus only runs every hour. So, say you get in at 7:30 pm, its likely you wont get on a bus until 9pm, as you'll probably not make it through bag claim and out to the bus in time for the 8 pm bus. Then add an 1+ hours of driving time to get to the hotel. Even is you have to drop other people off on super shuttle it probably wont take any longer. At least from what we've experienced.
