Tell me about the 2nd week of May?

We currently have ressies at the WL for the second week of May. We will be taking our children out of school to go and would like some input about the crowds. We made them at this time because we have always been told this is a very low crowd time.
Did we make the right decision or should we reconsider?

I would like to know about this time as well. My husband and I have been going in late May for the past 2 years. In 2002 we were honeymooning from May 27-June 4 and the crowds we not that bad. Last year we went from May 17-25 and the crowds were even better. This year we decided to go earlier to celebrate my husband's 25th birthday (May 10) and our anniversary in one, so we are planning a trip for May 12-17! How are the crowds and weather usually during this time? I AM SOOOOOOO EXCITED!

You both made a good decision to go in the month of May.

I love going to the World in May. It's great! I've been there several times in May and never have I noticed the crowds to be bad. The weather is ideal as well.

You kinda get the best of both worlds.....the park hours are pretty good...I noticed that the Magic Kingdom will be open to 8:30 most of that week and even till 9:30 one of those nights...but the crowds have thinned out since Spring Break is over and school hasn't gotten out for summer yet.


I'm going to be there the week of May 9 and I can't wait. So, please...feel assured that you picked a great time of the year to go!

I went the second week of May in '99 for my college graduation present. It was perfect b/c it was warm, but not ridiculously hot. We got a great code for the BWI and we even got to see Destiny's Child and Enrique film a Disney special there.

Its really the best mix of low-moderate crowds, great weather and exciting activities!!!

I agree- we've visited in May the last 2 times and the weather was great (I'm one of the crazy folks who worry that it won't be HOT enough ) It turns out it was a nice compromise for me and my DH (who likes it ALOT cooler).
The only thing I notice (could be coincidence) is that we had more rain...not big downpours, but lots of little bursts both years. DEFINATELY not enough to keep us inside, but you might want to think about bringing rain ponchos with you.

We've gone the first or second week of May the past 4 years. Crowds were low to moderate. More than early December but less than October. Weather was hot, low 90's but little rain.

We went last year May 4-10 and absolutely loved it. Low crowds and short waits. The only problem was that it was unseasonably warm (mid-90s last May).

I am counting on it being perfect! Late April, after spring break crowds, through early May are our absolute favorite times to go. We too take out kids out of school as I can't deal with oppressive heat or crowds. We'll be there 5/17 to 5/17, which I just noticed by my counter is now less than 50 days away!!

I do hope that the crowds are relatively small in May since we will be there too but does anyone else have the feeling that this May will be busier than in past years? Just wondering.....

I think the weather will be great too since everyone that has been there is giving us their opinion but I must say, my one lifelong dream is to visit where you are from. Just the thought of Hawaii makes me feel good all over.

Besides WDW, I can't imagine anywhere else I would love to go.

We have gone to WDW in May for the last 5 years. I think the crowds and weather have been pretty consistent.

Weather...normally high 80's to low 90'2 with little rain. Can get very humid. We carry a fan/spray bottle with ice water in it to cool the kids off. They sell them in the parks or cheaper if you pick one up at walgreens/wal-mart.

Crowds...not at all bad. You'll maybe need a fastpass for some of the more popular attractions.

Last year we went at the end of April- 1st week in May. Crowds seem very low compared with other times we have gone (March, October) The only park that was busy was MK. It worked out so well that we are going again at the same time this year. However, I am anticipating it to be a little more crowded this year because it seems airlines are not running such low fares as they did last year. Last year I paid 172.00 rt. This year cheapest I could get 198.00. Still not bad, but I got spoiled. I'm wondering if people weren't traveling/flying because of the War. Even if it is busier I don't think you will be disappointed. I would just plan to stay away from MK on the busier days. Also... the Epcot Garden Flower Show is an added bonus.

We went last year May 11-18. It was awesome!! It was actually pretty hot- in the 90's all week. It rained once for about an hour, but otherwise it was sunshine all the time.
Crowds were just not there, for the most part. There was a crowded day at MK, because it was the only day with Spectro that week. Fastpass solved that problem, anyway.

We actually went back this January, and though we had a great time, I missed May. The crowds were bigger and the weather was cold. We've decided that it's May every year from now on.

We are so looking forward to escaping from the warm sunny weather of Hawaii and visiting WDW where the weather is.....warm and sunny.

Although I firmly believe that every trip should be a Disney vacation, I think that you'd love visiting us here in the islands. Kick off your shoes, wiggle your toes in the sand, and lay under the shade of a coconut tree. Boy, that sounded like a commercial for Hawaii didn't it? lol

Have a wonderful vacation and say hi to the smiling and wide-eyed lady with the lime green Mickey on her Disney backpack (that'll be me!).
