I am sure there is a thread on this but on my phone its hard to search back too far...so I am wondering how realistic is tent camping at the world?
We've camped before, more lately...what supplies are necessary?
I am a teacher so given standard school year, what time of year would be best?

1) There are lots of folks who tent-camp at The Fort.
2) They have campsites from complete hook-ups to very rustic.
3) You pick you type and pitch your tent.
4) Just make sure you watch for 5' to 7' wild animals
. . . the huge chipmunks *
. . . the monster bear **
. . . the male and female mouses ***
. . . the crazy ducks ****

I love the doable...I am wondering if I am enough of a camper to do it...especially in a tent, my school district in Michigan doesn't do a fall break, just Thanksgiving, Christmas, and spring...

I'm confused, are you asking about tenting camping in WDW or just tent camping in general?

I have not tent camped at Walt Disney world but I have camped in a pop up without electricity. I have tent camped at the Lake. For me a must is to have an awning to put over the table, and yet big enough to set a couple of camping chairs. About 60 dollars at Walmart. When I tent camp I like to have a place at the table covered where I can put my cooler, stove and light, plastic bin from Walmart for food. I have taken a fan to set on the table during the day, and in my tent at night. Even if you don't use a fan an awning over your table makes it better for a place to sit and store your things.

I would try Thanksgiving first based on cost and weather but it's pretty close now and might be hard to get a ressie.

Christmas is the most expensive and most crowded time but the decorations at the Fort by campers are marvelous.

Spring break is best weather-wise but almost as expensive as Christmas.

When does your school year end in the spring? We finish the Friday before Memorial Day and that last week of May is a nice time to visit before the summer crowds and daily rain show up. We did that once and it was a great trip.

Leave a day or two in your visit to just relax and hang out around the Fort.

Thanks for the advice and thoughts. I was talking about camping in WDW. I am just afraid our luck it would be freaky cold and we'd freeze, but better to freeze in Disney then in Michigan, I suppose!

We tent camped in Disney for Christmas break a couple of years ago, and it was FREEZING!! Good thing we had an electric blanket though, because we were so cuddly warm and it was fantastic. Oh yeah I was also 7 months pregnant!

If you camp in the Summer, there are threads about people who put air conditioning in their tent. Would that be an option for you?

I like to sleep cool so I think it would have to be really cold in Florida before I would be uncomfortable.

Tell us about your usual camping style and we might be able to let you know if there are things you might want to modify for camping at the Fort.
