Tell me about some of the healthiest meals you had a Disney

Every trip we go to CRT for breakfast and I always get what the waiter calls the healthy choice. It is a big bowl of granola with dried fruit and nuts, topped with yogurt and caramelized bananas. May not be so healthy but it is sooooooooooooo good. My fav for sure.:)

For us it's been fruit as a desert or snack. And DD's burger or hot dog on a wheat bun. :rotfl:

What I have done is gone on Allears.net and printed menus and have found many options that are on the healthy side. There are a lot of seafood and chicken entrees and you can ask them not to but the sauce or get it on the side.

Many places now allow you to get apple slices or grapes as your side. If they offer it with one of their kid's meals, then they usually let you sub fruit for fries. This always a struggle for me b/c I LOVE fries; but DH usually gets fries with his meal, so I get fruit & steal 1 or 2 of his fries.

You can also get raw carrots, if that helps any.

I always eat healthy there. I usually order the fish. But even if I do steak or chicken I ask them not to prepare it with butter, I put all salad dressings on the side etc. If you eat healthy at home then it should not be unfamiliar territory on how to ask them to prepare your foods. I always order the desserts take one bite and then pass it to the right to my 6 yr old to enjoy. Since he is hyper and has the metabolism of a tasmanian (sp) devil I let him enjoy it.

I have also seen at the grocery store small serving packets of low cal dressing for salads. I plan on taking those on my vacation.

Oh, my mom is a diabetic and we were on the dining plan she got low fat yogurt at the CS places as a desert if it was on the menu. That could be a good option. I also substituted fries with my kids meals for applesauce at the CS. I found that they were more likely to substitute at the counter services but not so much at the TS restaurants. I think she also got a sugar free thing at Le Cellier for desert as well. It doesnt hurt to ask!

LOL - this thread kind of makes me laugh...I am regularly a very very healthy eater, but am never good on vacation...I gained 14 lbs on a 10 day trip on the dining plan (the one that included Appetizer) - and 16 lbs on my last 11 day trip (with no apps)...I'm not sure how or why it happens, especially since I am a normal, healthy 150-160 lb female....and I walk A LOT at Dis...but I definitly eat whatever and whenever i feel like it while I'm there - it's worth all of the healthy eating throughout the year to get back to pre-dis size...

I guess in hindsight eating Jelly Bellys by the handful and fudge at 11 AM washed down with a dole whip isn't that great for me, now is it?

I probably don't have any new ideas than many of those already posted. . . but I was interested in reading through the thread and figured I'd throw in my 2 cents :)

I am a big fan of the veggie burger (I'm a little distressed that the Boca burger has been replaced with Morningstar. . .but I'm sure I'll survive next month!)----I opt to order the "sandwich only" and bypass the fries. . . I do see that they often offer carrots or apples, etc. in lieu of fries. . .but I generally just get the sandwich and pile on the lettuce, tomatoes and such. . .it is filling and satisfying. . . I had a good veggie wrap at Cosmic Rays last trip. . . You'll find many entrée salad options----just ask for the dressing on the side!

If you can find an ice cream stand that still offers the frozen chocolate covered banana. . .I believe it is just 160 calories! (unless my memory fails me)

Every chance I get to order an ice water at a counter service, I do. . .if you aren't used to a lot of salt in your food----being subjected to prepared food for an entire trip is tough. I drink as much as I can to keep flushing out my system. . . Maybe too much information for some of you----but your body will thank you for it. . .

You can make mindful, healthful choices. I am not super strict throughout my vacation----but I can tell you with all the walking, I've actually returned from vacation having LOST?! weight in the past----or at least 'staying the same'.

Happy eating! :thumbsup2

I have a restricted salt diet and that's what I do also. I wonder to the CS spots have sliced lemon or lemon juice packets? I often use lemon mixed with water to help flush out the salt.

My DW is a healthy eater, and she loves the Fresh Mediterranean Market restaurant in the dolphin for breakfast - buffet style menu includes fresh juices (fruits, veggie, detox, wheatgrass, etc), cereals, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal - they also have an omelette station.

I can't remember if other CS spots have the lemon juice packets, but Sunshine Seasons in the Land pavillion at Epcot definitely has them. If you want to bring your own, there's a product called "True Lemon" that is a little envelope of crystallized lemon, no sweeteners. I add that to my bottle of water sometimes.

Thank you for saying you lose weight when you go. Everyone we travel with always loses weight. Even though we may eat more often, we walk so much that we actually walk it off. And we don't necessarily look for low cal or sugar free. I personally need the real sugar to keep up my stamina.

Glad to hear YOU are glad to hear that someone else loses weight! I agree on the regular sugar thing, too. . . Just not so big on all the sugar-free stuff. I'll drink an occassional diet Coke---but otherwise, I try to avoid a lot of the artificial sweeteners. I know for some people they are a must and a blessing. . . just my personal preference to use them sparingly.

We found too, that we use that whole many-mini-meals sort of strategy on our trip----to keep up our stamina. I just can't over fill my stomach and then get back to pounding the pavement in the Florida sun. So there might be breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and a later "dinner" if it is a late night!

I'm glad someone offered up a lemon suggestion. . . I don't know if any of the CS locations have lemon. Not sure what Columbia House (and/or other locations with fish options) has available? . . .or if you order tea from somewhere? Seems like they might/must have something. . .but probably not fresh wedges!

I keep studying the menus on this site to see what has changed since our last visit----just to make a mental list of what is available. . . I hope to stumble upon some new tastes and tries this time around!

. . .oh', and we ordered up some cereal, skim milk, etc. from Garden Grocer to get us a little kick start for the morning!

Enjoying this thread too. . .hope to learn more for y'all! :goodvibes

It's good to hear others say that they have lost weight on their trips as well. I only lost a pound on our last vacation, but I was quite happy with that. I'm not on a diet and have no goal for losing weight - just trying to maintain my current weight, but I am very conscientious about what I eat. I allowed myself to have some dessert here and there and some yummy snacks, but for the most part I stuck to my healthy ways while at Disney. I still enjoyed myself and never had that horrible feeling of being totally overstuffed!

Great thread!! and something that's been top of mind as we plan our March trip. I figure if meals are mostly healthy, that gives me the option to have a few yummy desserts through the week. On my last 5 pounds, and really don't want to blow it on vacation. These last 5 are brutal!!!!!!

A couple of things we're planning to keep it healthy on the Disney Dining Plan

Pack a box of protein/breakfast bars
Use snack credits for fresh fruit, and get bottled water as our beverage.
Fill up on vegetables and stay away from fried food.

The only thing that's worrying me is my HUGE sweet tooth.

Thanks for all the great ideas!!!!!
