We will be staying with Military friends at CR thru SOG. I understand they have a small "commissary" there. What can I leave off my towncar grocery stop list to pick up there instead? Do they carry liquor/wine/beer? Mixers? Six packs of soda, chips, snacks, breakfast foods (bagels/cream cheese/cereal/milk? How are the prices? Normal grocery store prices, or Disney Gift shop prices? TIA

When we stayed at the CR via SOG (three times with the most recent being Sept 2003), the SOG store was simply a hotel room converted to a ticket office/SOG merchandise shop. There were no grocery items available.

That makes a lot of sense. I'm sure the Contemporary didn't want to lose merchandise sales to the folks shopping in the SOG "store" and the SOG didn't want to use a lot of extra manpower policing eligible patrons as there is little control on who enters that area of the Contemporary.

Once they move back to their own digs, I'm sure the store options will expand again.

We stayed there in April and they did have some items available like wine (German and Italian) & beer (mini-kegs), sundry items, t-shirts, and SOG souveniers. The beer is the German beer you can get in the Class 6 stores on post/base. It is not refridgerated.

It is also where you buy your discounted park tickets for the military except for the Armed Forces Salute(you buy those at the main gates, I don't know if you can get them at the shop or not).

The prices for the alcoholic beverages were reasonable, not Disney inflated too much.

Have a great time!!!

Just for your info, there is a NEX (Naval Exchange) about 20 minutes away, near MCO. If you ask at the SOG office, they will give you directions. It was a exchange/commissary and we bought a lot of breakfast and snack items there, as well as wine coolers and a cooler to keep it all cold in. It is well worth the trip to stock up on stuff. (The toy section in the outer building was having such a good clearance sale that we bought a ton of stuff and shipped it all home!)

We were there from 8/27 - 9/7, so if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
When you are in the SOG office of the CR, keep your eyes opened for a small notice on the desk about a special "taste testing luncheon" at SOG. It is usually held once a month at SOG, and you get to try some of the things they are planning to serve in the dining areas. It was $7 per person, and they supplied the transportation there and back to the CR, and was a buffet style lunch. We just needed to answer a few questions about what we did or didn't like after we were done. WELL WORTH IT!
