Tell me about soft openings

We are jetting off a fortnight on Sunday & the mine train opens half way through our second week. As mentioned in another thread I have only 2 fast passes for my party of 3 & wondered whether there may be soft openings earlier in the trip & if there are how do they work? How do you get to be one of the lucky ones who gets to ride?

a soft opening means that it's open, but not on a regular shcedule

so it might be open when you walk by the ride, or it may be closed.
There is no way of knowing

how do you get to ride ?
If it's open, enter the line, if it's closed ... well ...

soft openings might also be restricted at times, for example for AP holders only.

but basically, soft open means it doesn't work on the regular schedule. It might only be in operation for a couple of hours one day, all day long the next day, only in the afternoon the 3rd day.
No way of knowing (except if you know to ask a Cast Member )

Thanks for that - so pot luck really then?! Will keep trying for an additional fast pass or it'll be a sprint to fantasy land during morning magic hours on the 29th lol!
