I'm considering selling my points, and I'm trying to figure out what's involved. How do I list them, how do I figure out what price to ask, and what's Disney's involvement in all this? Anything you can tell me about the steps I need to take would be greatly appreciated. I am absolutely clueless. :confused3

I edited the above post to remove the point and resort info, as that could be construed as a "For Sale" post and not allowed on the boards.

Personally, I would contact a reputable resale broker, there are several, including the Timeshare Store.

Once you receive and accept an offer, it will be presented to DVC... they then have the option to purchase the contract under similar terms as the person who made the offer. Or they could waive the option and the sale could proceed.

If there is a mortgage on the points, it would need to be fully satisfied prior to any sale closing, like any other real estate transaction.

I have sold two small contracts.

You can sell them on your own....

But I sold mine using a broker (one was The Timeshare store, the second was another broker) IMHO there was no real difference between the two.

The broker will ask you got get a statement from Disney as to your current point status. The broker should also be able to advise you as to a good price point.

Once you get an offer then Disney gets involved. Disney will review the offer and determine if they are going to let it pass or not. If they do, then the deal is processed by the closing company, most folks use the one the broker recommends. If they don't then Disney buys the points. You get paid either way.

When you go through a reseller, you will pay a commission to them once the sale is final, usually 10-15% of the sales price. If you check out The Timeshare Store and other resellers, you can see various contracts that are for sale and base your sales price on that, plus on the discussion with your reseller.

You can Google DVC resales to find resellers.

I used the timeshare store last year to sell a small contract. They found me a buyer within a week and it was all taken care of within the next six weeks. Very easy.

Thank you, Chuck. Just blame it on my ignorance of proper protocol on these boards. I didn't mean to list my points here. I appreciate the edit.

And thanks everyone else for your input. You've all been very helpful. :)
