We spent a week at Sapphire Beach in 2000 and loved it. Visited it again each time we have cruised to St. Thomas.
It's a very wide crescent-shaped beach, sheltered by out islands, surf was very gentle. Lots of shade from seagrapes. Rocks and reef on the right side made a great area for snorkeling -- equipment available at the dive center on site. There is a two-level swimming pool out of sight to the far right, and a poolside cafe. To the left is an open air restaurant, and farther left is a small gift/sundry shop.
Our first trip there we saw lots of big (2-3 ft long) iguanas which thrilled my kids. One swam through the pool to an island in the middle and climbed the palm tree planted there. Another roamed through the cafe and ate lettuce and french fries. On subsequent trips we saw only small ones, though.
Coral World is another favorite of ours -- not too far from Sapphire Beach, but you need to remember to allow enough time to get back to the ship. Traffic gets really heavy late afternoon approaching Havensight.
