Tell me about Royal Rooms (POR)

We just got back from a weekend at the Polynesian and my husband has now declared that we will always stay deluxe in the MK area. We have a reservation for for the end of next week at POR in a Royal Room.

My primary concern is that they look awfully small. They also appear from pictures to be a bit...um, cheap? No, that's not the word I'm looking for, but they aren't really impressive to me based on pics. Of course, I thought the same of the pirate rooms at CBR, and I found those to be cute and perfectly ok for a night or two.

This is for my daughter's birthday. I told her to pick a moderate. She would probably have no problem picking a deluxe if we told her she could.

I'd like to hear some opinions on the POR Royal Rooms before making any changes to our reservation.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

VP

I've always stayed at the Poly or WL! But, I these rooms look so interesting! I've seen pics, but I would also like to know more about them as well!

I have a friend who works at the Disney Store who stayed here in February. She said she loved it when she first walked in, but the rooms were a little small. She did say the decor did seem very regal. But, she also said, after a couple nights, the magic kind of wore off. She liked them and recommended doing them once, but she said she'd stay somewhere else next time!

I'm really thinking about trying these rooms for a couple nights next time I book a trip!

Hi There :) we stayed at POR this past May & we were upgraded to a RR. This was our first vacation in WDW so I do not have anything to compare it to. Hopefully you will get some better feedback. What I will say is I found there to be plenty of room. It was myself twin boys 13 & ds9. (I shared a bed w/ds9). The room was beautiful & not tacky or "cheap" looking @ all. My boys didnt even realize it was "girly" it was very subtle and tastefully done. The headboards light up w/fireworks when you press the button. I really loved the detail. When we walked into the room I thought it was a mistake as I did not know we were upgraded. You definately can tell it is a special room.
Again, I have nothing to compare it to but I highly recommend it!! :)

Royal Rooms are 314 sq ft just like the other moderate rooms in POR. Not large rooms, but adequate for a young family with as many as 2 adults and 2 small children. The theming is great and attention to detail perfect. Definitely NOT cheap.
It is very nice to do once and especially nice if you get a free upgrade. Personally, I think that it is worth the extra $$$ doing one time but not worth the extra $$$ to bother with again. I agree with the PP who said that after a couple of days you 'get over it'. The regular rooms are beautiful also, IMHO, but less expensive.

I haven't stayed at the Polynesian, but I suppose these may seem small coming from there.

I felt the same as you looking at photos of the royal rooms. It was a trip that included me and my adult kids (30 and 28). My daughter and I thought the rooms looked "a bit much" and decided on hoping for the regular mansion rooms. When we got there we ended up in connecting royal rooms. I was a little worried, but the rooms were delightful and charming. Loved the detail and the lighted headboards, too! Very fun to stay there and loved coming home there at night!

Having stayed once at Poly and then another time in a POR RR, I have to say you can't really compare the two. Our poly room was the largest room we've ever had in WDW. It was awesome! We loved our two night stay there! Maybe one day we'll return .... Anywho, that said we (a family of 3) found there was enough room for us in a RR. It wasn't "tacky". It was nicely themed. We had a nice corner room on the 2nd floor. DD loved it! :lovestruc Would we do it again, no, but that's because my husband wasn't a fan of POR. The bus stops there drove him nuts! :sad2: And it rained, probably poured nearly the whole time we were there!
You can't beat the Poly's location .... But we enjoy "trying" out other resorts.
Good luck with your decision.
I will be interested to read other's opinions.

We stayed for a couple of nights at the POR royal rooms last summer. It was a surprise for our two girls, who enjoyed the theming tremendously (my younger daughter is still very much into princesses!)

We haven't stayed at Poly, so I can't compare the room size to that resort -- but having stayed at Wilderness Lodge right before our 2 days at POR, I didn't feel like we were overly crowded in the POR room. (Yes, it's definitely a moderate in terms of amenities -- for example, no private balcony). The kids enjoyed the princess-themed artwork on the walls and floors and the headboards that light up with stars when you press a button. We also got a keepsake letter from Princess Tiana welcoming us to the room. I didn't feel like the decor was tacky -- to me, it's just an extension of the Disney theming you'll see at some of the parks and resorts.

We liked Riverside resort itself well enough -- the royal rooms are in the mansion-type buildings, which are pretty good size buildings (as opposed to the Alligator Bayou buildings at POR, which are a little less sprawling in size). We were situated close to a quiet pool, which we visited more frequently than the large themed pool just because of proximity. We did spend an afternoon at the themed pool, where they had family games and activities that the girls enjoyed.

We didn't use the bus stops since we had our own car, but Riverside is definitely a large resort, and if you're dependent upon Disney transportation the size of the resort could be a drawback. It was a hike from our room over to the main building and pool.

My bottom line: we don't regret trying the POR royal rooms, but I'm not sure we'd do it again (been there, done that!)

Hope this helps -- happy to answer any more specific questions.

Great beds in 9537. Shower is good also. (Handicapped room)
Just across the bridge from the Lobby & Food Court.
River view is awesome! :thumbsup2
The headboards are soooooo adorable with the fireworks!

Not cheap, not tacky - Love it! :goodvibes

We didn't find the royal rooms to be cheap at all. I thought they were cute but then again even if I didn't I still would have stayed there because our trip was about her. I actually pick the resort for the room only because I knew my daughter would love it since she loves princesses. It was a good choice and never did get tired of it. We would probably try something new next time but just because the same thing gets boring in my opinion. The size was fine too. Smaller than the poly but I figure considering how much time we are actually in the room it wasn't worth the difference in price. Good luck!

We stayed in a RR for three nights as the first part of a split stay with BC.

We really liked the room. I thought it was very well done and everything was pristine. Yes it's smaller than a deluxe room. The biggest thing I missed was having a sofa. I like having a comfy place to lounge that's not the bed.

The one thing I would've done differently was not paid the extra for a garden view. We were along the side of the building basically overlooking an overgrown area between buildings. Kind of a joke that we paid extra for that!

We stayed in a RR last January. I did love it. Nothing felt cheap, but I thought it was a little cramped (then again we had two large suitcases and a stroller.) It really was fun though. My favorite part was probably all the prince and princess photos on the walls and the headboards.
