So here I thought I had a blood blister that wouldn't heal. Went to dr today and he said its Pyogenic Granuloma. I have to schedule a visit with a dermatologist to get it removed.

Has anyone had this done? whats it like? From what my dr told me I think I would rather keep bleeding out my thumb, hahahaha but im also overdramtic and hate going to dr's for even a check up.

I had one on my lower lip from a bird bite. It grew quickly and was really gross.

I'm afraid my experience will be different because of where mine was. I had outpatient surgery (heavy sedation - propofol) in the hospital. It was quite painful afterwards, but, again, it probably was because of the location.

It hasn't grown back (sometimes they do, but not often) and I got it removed in April.

Well, now that I think of it, the thumb will probably be as painful as the lip. :(

The day I had it done it hurt a lot, but I was given a painkiller (maybe lortab?) and that took care of the pain for the most part. It still hurt a little, but not too bad. The next day was a little better and by the third day it didn't hurt too bad. But, then it started hurting worse again. The doctor said that was because I heal really quickly (which, he said, is why I got the damn thing in the first place) and the stitches were pulling. After he took out the stitches there was only little bits of stinging pain for a couple of days. :)

Not sure if you're wondering about scarring, but I do have a little scar on my lip that shows up if I "stretch" my lip. Not sure what it would be like on your thumb.

Oh, another thing. About a week before my surgery, it wouldn't stop bleeding, so the doctor had to put a figure eight stitch in it. I had the numbing shot (again in my lip, so...)before they did that. I'm assuming it's the same type of shot you'll have. The shot did hurt pretty bad, but nothing I couldn't handle - didn't tear up or anything.

errrrr

thx. lol I was hoping to hear a shot around the area not in it. darn it.

not too worried about scarring to be honest

My son had one of these removed from his face when he was about 3 years old. It was about an inch below his eye. It was probably somewhat more traumatic for me than it was for him. In his case they had him lie on the table and I had to physically lean over him and hold him down. The wosrt part for him was when they brought out the lidocaine needle to numb the area. Since the pyogenic granuloma was so close to his eye, I'm sure when he saw the needle coming he thought they were going to poke him in the eye with it. After it was numbed, they cut it off using a loop type instrument. There was some bleeding but not too bad and it left a very small scar (I'm probably the only one who knows it's there). He really had no discomfort to speak of afterwards except for a little soreness for a day or two. He is 17 now and it has never grown back although I believe that is probably where his major needle phobia came from. To this day, he is deathly afraid of needles and it is almost impossible to get him to agree to any vaccinations. His bled a lot and often even with the slightest bump so it really seemed there was no other choice and I was told they will usually keep getting larger so it probably is your best bet to have it removed. Good luck. It will be okay! I promise. :goodvibes

Well, yeah, it was in the area, not in the granuloma itself. Honestly it's not bad. Mine was just worse because...well, imagine it on your lip. The only reason I think a thumb would hurt too is because you have to move it a lot. I'd think your thumb was a little less sensitive than your lip.

You'll be fine. Just close your eyes and count to ten while they're giving the shot then the worst part will be over..
