Ok just finished watching the Animal Kingdom show that I tivo'd yesterday on the Travel Channel......I have been to AK many times, but I have never seen this attraction or been on it, the last time I was at WDW was in 2002 so this may be new since then, however, it looks like a BLAST....can anyone tell me what this ride is like, is it worth riding and does anyone know the age/height limit for this attraction, I was wondering if my 3 yo DS will be too young????
Thanks :thumbsup2

It's really a pretty tame roller coaster ride. The twist is that the car also spins around (like the teacups). It's pretty jerky but not really very scary. My family always really enjoys it - laughing and "squishing" each other as we spin around.
The height requirement is 48".

Primevil Whirl is what is known as a "Wild Mouse" rollercoaster. It's a fun little coaster that most anyone in the family can handle. It is not fast and it doesn't haven't any big drops. It does spin and turn on a dime. (It is jerky so if you have neck problems, don't ride.) Otherwise, this style of coaster is my DS's favorite.

I just watched the same show... I tivo'd it too! :) :) I dont think that I will be going on that ride though. I reminds me of the mouse rollercoaster and I am not a fan of it but like they said on the show, its just a whippy/spinning type of ride that brings you back to the day of the traveling seaside amusement parks...

I have not been on it because I can't do things that spin, but the whole rest of my family has been on it.
My DH likes it and has been on it many time, but my older DD doesn't like it because it is very jerky. DH has also taken our neice and nephew - they also thought it was very jerky and don't like it that much.
My youngest DD is disabled with cerebral palsy. She can't stand, but has fairly good sitting balance. We watched the ride for a while and thought it looked tame enough for her to ride (she likes things like Test Track, Body Wars and Star Tours). The ride is kind of deceptive - it looks a lot more tame than it is. By the time this ride finished, DD had slid way down and had almost slid under the restraint because she could not use her feet for bracing herself. She is 5 feet tall; I would expect someone who is 48 inches tall (which is the minimum for this attraction) would not be able to brace with their feet either and would be whipped around a bit more.

This has got to be the WORST ride at WDW.

we hated it, and my kids arent "little 'uns" either! They were aged 11 and 8 when we went in 2004.

We came off so bruised and battered it was untrue! We are BIG coaster fans, but this one is mad!

We will seriously avoid it next time!

I think the height requirement is 48", and the ride is rougher than it looks. It really whips you around fast.

My dh opted not to ride it because he has sore neck issues. Dd was too short to ride it, so I rode it with ds. He enjoyed the ride, but it was a little rough and jerky for me. I was glad dh passed on the ride, as it probably would not have been good for his neck. Another reason I think the height requirement is 48" is because you need to have good neck/muscle control as you are spun through the ride. A 3 y.o. would get whipped around pretty badly.

DH and I love this ride! We laugh so hard when it starts spinning. I think that while it is a tame ride in the coaster world, you need to enjoy thrill rides to appreciate this one.

When we were at AK in March my DD6 wanted to ride it but wasnt tall enough. The CM said she can go ride Expedition Everest. I guess I had a shocked look on my face, he said this ride really whips you around. :confused3 So, DD6 rode Expedition Everest and loved it, but said she'll never ride it again. I definitely dont think your 3yo will be able to ride it.

Not a Roller Coaster scary ride- it is tame on that front. But the spinning and the jerking around...not fun. My dd was just able to ride it last year(after being too small when she was 6 so I don't think the 3 year old will be tall enough) We laughed in the beginning but then when it started switching direction she hated it. Even my DS(12) HUGE rollercoaster kid- loves all and anything didn't like it.(too tame for him) My dd loves the wild mouse every other park we go to(dorney ect...)So this is rougher than the average Wild Mouse.

I'm not a roller coaster rider but I do ride this. I don't think the hills are as high on this ride as the Wild Mouse, if they were I would not get on it. However, it does spin quite a bit and jerks you around.

We like it. We rode 2 or 3 times in October.

I have a bad back but I was able to handle it just fine. DS9 likes roller coasters so he thought it was great. DH was sort of on the fence. He went with us the first couple of times, then sat it out on the last day at AK. By the end of the week he was having some motion issues that he hasn't had before so he was opting out of some rides.

I had read reports that people get very battered on Primeval Whirl so I was nervous. DS is 52" tall but he only weighs 60 lbs. so I didn't want him to get banged up. He was fine. :)

In terms of "rough" I think Dinosaur is rougher.

I've never been to AK before, it will be my first time and I was wondering whether to take my kids on it or not, and by the looks of these posts, you HAVE to ride it to know if you'll like it or not. So if your child is tall enough and wants to go on , give it a try!

Not one I like... it can hurt (depending on the jurking turn at the wrong place on the wrong time)...

Still, it is save enough so no harm in trying once...

I count my roller coasters so I had to do the both sides, but I do think I'll pass on them next time...

DS10 loves this ride. So we always hit this while older boys ride Dinosuar. Then we switch off with DS10, the older ones do "whirl" with him and I go ride Dinosaur.

Last Sept. I think DS10 must had ridden this about 10 times in a row, due to short lines, once they asked us if we wanted to stay on.

Yes very jerky ride, but not scary. We have a blast!

This ride is like the old amusement rides you would find at the boardwalk settings AC, Asbury Park. I have rode this ride many times and to me, its nothing like a roller roaster, more like the wild mouse only with spins. I would not recommend a 3 yr old for the ride. For anyone that has not rode the ride, it is a very exciting, I would recommend it for ride goers.

Until about a week ago, I thought the riders controlled the spin. I was planning on avoiding this one because I don't like spinning that much and DS (who I'd be riding with) is evil. But since it seems like he cannot torture me, I guess I'll give it a try.

Just want to make sure, riders cannot control the spinning right?

Looks like fun!!! However, I came off with black and blues on my back... Way too jerky for me... And I love Roller Coasters. My kids liked it... Hubby hated it (too jerky, again)......

From what I have seen, gravity controls the spinning. Watching from the outside, it looks like the cars that spin the most have the weight more concentrated in one area (like an adult on one side and kids on the other). When you go up a hill, the heaviest rider may not be on the end of the car going down first, but since the car spins, once you start going down, the car spins so the heaviest part is at the bottom (I'm not sure if this makes sense, but it will as you are watching).
