For those of you that have/wear them: Are they warm and worth the $?

Having so much fun getting teenage DSs to wear coats:sad2:

I thought they may go for a NorthFace fleece--since they are not bulky. I was looking at the Apex Bionic fleece as it seems to be a bit water and wind proof. Seems it is possible to get some decent deals online for oddball colors.

Anyone find any good deals recently? Do they sell them at Macy's? I know they have them at Dick's/Sports Authority/etc. I have some Macy's coupons...

Any other suggestions?

thanks:flower3:

They sell the fleece at Macys but they're very expensive. The women's fleece (not a coat) is $165. The little kids ones are $99.

I don't have one but a young woman at my job does. She said it was worth every penny because it keeps her so warm and comfy (and she's the type that's always "freezing")

My daughter wanted one, but I'm not spending that much on a fleece. Even if it was 50% off w/a 25% off coupon, it would still be $62 and that's just too much (in my opinion) to spend on a fleece (and the fleeces don't even come in awesome colors!)

This will be my fifth winter with my same North Face, and it's lasted really well despite the constant use. To be honest, I didn't find it that great for keeping me warm. The sleeves allow bone chilling wind right through, so I'd have to layer up majorly. This was in Michigan so the cold weather was pretty intense, not sure where you're from. This winter I'm in Florida so it should work just fine :thumbsup2

I'd say it's good for 30-40+ degrees, but not for super cold weather or wind chill!

The North Face Girls TKA 100 Glacier Hoodie in black from $40 to $27.99. Better yet, code CJSALE cuts it to $25.19. Shipping is $5.95 or free with $49. moosejaw.com

just bought 2 for $50.00

I own about 7 northface fleece, denali jackets. I like them for fall weather but they are not by no means a winter jacket. I know I see lots of kids wearing them in the winter but I would be freezing in it unless I had a heavy sweater underneath it. They do wash well and wear well. Both of my girls own several and that is all they were until it gets cold. I have bought all of my on sale, I do not thing they are worth 100 + dollars. You can find a good deal online usually but you just have to look. I am only 5 feet tall and I wear a kids xlarge. I could fit into a large but I like my coats big so I can layer.

We live in MA, and DS has a NorthFace Denali. I think he wore a heavy ''winter'' coat about 4 times last winter going to school. The rest of the time, he'd wear a t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, and his North Face. He has always 'run hot', and dislikes bulky jackets/coats, and their lockers at school are TINY.

If he's out, in the snow, he'll wear a bigger coat, but for too and from school, the fleece, a hat, and gloves did the trick last winter.

I have the Denali and I love it. I wore it all winter and I even wore it skiing in the spring. I live in a pretty mild area although last week when our highs were in the 20's and we had snow on the ground I wore it out running errands and I was fine.

Around her the Denali is the "cool" jacket to wear for all the kids (mid elementary through college). I also agree they need more layers underneath to really be warm, but that is all my kids wear in the winter. DD spent 4 years at a private all girls school and they all wore the denali fleece, their uniform skirts, and their UGG boats all winter.

My two daughters both have them. I think they are highly overpriced and overrated--it's a status symbol thing.

My older daughter also has a very similar fleece jacket we bought last year from Aero, on sale for $20. They are equally warm and wear just about identically.

My younger daughter got a NF Denali last year for Christmas. The zipper broke a few weeks ago. They are those crappy plastic zippers, and a tooth fell right out. For what we paid for it, I certainly expected more. They are supposed to repair or replace defective items. I just shipped it back, and the website says it usually takes a month for them to fix items.

I'm not impressed with the jacket at all--totally overpriced for what it is, and for the kids, it's just wanting to have the same "cool" logos that the other kids have. I don't normally cater to this desire and this jacket reminds me why.

My son and daughter, both in college, have the all-black denalis, and have had them for 3 and 4 years respectively. The denalis have definitely been the most popular "in" style. They wear them pretty much all fall and spring, and milder winter days. The have heavier jackets for the winter, as we are in the Midwest.

You can use your 25% friends and family coupon at Macy's this weekend. Normally, Northfaces are excluded from coupon deals.

In various threads I've read, a lot of people comment that they wash and wear very well, and are still like new after several years. It's funny, because I was at Macy's today buying a heavier down Northface jacket for my son (don't know if these type are popular with college guys -- if anyone knows, please comment -- I just bought it because I wanted him to have another winter coat). Anyhow, the denalis were right there, so I felt one, and either they're making them a lot lot softer now, or ours are really wearing out. Because both my kids' denalis feel almost rough, and they are pilling in spots. (Maybe this is my washer or dryer, I don't know).

But to me, it was well worth it for them to have the Denalis. You know how sometimes you buy something, and you feel you don't get your money's worth out of it? Well, I feel I got my money's worth, because both of them wear theirs a lot. Not sure if they would have if it was a different brand.

I went to Macy's yesterday with my 25% coupon...the lady at the counter told me that if my husband opened an account we would get 45% everything in the store including the north face jackets!

My daughter was also at Macys last night. She had the F&F 25% discount card and bought several hoodies/NorthFace for grandson. Also Levis, which are often excluded too! The F&F discount has hardly any exclusions. The problem is is you have to find a Macys that carries them. She had to drive an hour to Tysons Corner, VA to make her purchases.
