Tell me about Kona.

Could you compare them to anything? I am not a fan of duck but I do tend to surprise myself with what I end up liking.
Similiar to veggie or pork dumplings..... Crispy on the outside, light & moist on the inside, if I recall they sprinkle them with sesame seeds and serve them with a soy based dipping sauce.
Hope that helped a little.

One of our real favorites! We have never had a bad experience, tried it based on reviews from this board...

Kona is now our traditional breakfast on departure day!! It's fabulous and we have never needed an ADR!!! The Tonga Toast is awesome!! My daughter was there 2 weeks ago and she brought me some home for breakfast the next morning!! What a great child!

I'm getting excited. I think I may trick DH into ordering the dumplings. That way I can try them and still have wings or crabcakes.:lmao:

Alright, someone make up something bad about Kona before it becomes the next Le Celier (sp?):thumbsup2

We ate at Kona for dinner based on all the great reviews and the fact that it was a "trip must" for so many. However, I really dislike saying this, but I was disappointed.

My husband had the prime rib, and I had the terriyaki steak. The steak was not good. The sauce was fine but the steak wasn't. My husband's prime rib was not as tender as other prime ribs that he has had (ok, it was tough and not very flavorful). He said it was basically, "ok". The sides were ok at best.

For appetizers he had the pot stickers which he liked. I had the crab cakes which were fine - not outstanding or memorable but more tasty than the steak.

The bread and butter that they serve prior to the meal was excellent. It was warm and fresh and had a great flavor.

We didn't order dessert because we were overall not really pleased with dinner. I do want to mention that the raspberry smoothie (non-alcoholic) was tasty. The service was fine. It's loud in there due to it being opened up to the walkway and waiting area for Ohanas, but every restaurant we went to was loud - no fault of theirs.

Would we eat there again? If we stay at the Poly, I will book an ADR there again. This time I will eat the fish or chicken. It could be that it was a bad night or a new chef or something. I'm usually willing to give a restaurant another chance when things were just Ok. Normally it may be very good. Actually I'm sure it is normally very good due to all the reviews.

Absolutey LOVE Kona Cafe. Never had a meal there that we didn't love. It's a MUST on every trip.

It used to be one of the hidden treasures of WDW, but it has been getting very popular the last few years.

Mommyseven, I'm glad you posted what you did--even though I've only had good experiences at Kona. What was helpful was you were really specific about what you liked and what fell short. I think every restaurant can have an off night but am sorry you had a disappointing experience at Kona.

We ate at Kona this past Feb. it was a great time! I had the Mahi-Mahi, and it was out of this world! My DBF had the Terriyaki Steak, and it was so-so. I also had the crab cakes for an appetizer, and they were delicious. For dessert I had the Banana Carmel Creme Burlee...yummy! We also ordered a Kona Coffee Press Pot, which was fantastic! The service was also top notch!

On a side note, we ate at Concourse in 2006 and did not enjoy it at all. I thought Kona was wayyyyyyy better! :goodvibes

I just hope I don't get the waitress that Desnik did! I would have made a much bigger deal about her attitude. Desnik is one nice person.;) ( Toss out my baby's drawing! Nu uh!)

:lmao:
I was on my best behavior because of my inlaws!

What does everyone love at Kona for dessert? I have heard very good things about the dessert choice but we have never ordered dessert...anything nut-free that you really like?
