I have book this for New Years eve and I have high hopes. (The idea of being stuck in the MK with all those ppl gave me the willies.) Dh and I have always wanted to try it, but just never got around to it. This time I made sure to book it. So please share with me your experiences.

This is my husbands favorite place to eat. He had the bbq flatbread, braised beef, and the lavender ice cream dessert. They were all delish. I did not like the appy or entree I chose. I did love the creme brulee that I had for dessert.

Jiko is our one "must do" every trip. We LOVE it. The menu is deep - it has lots of different and interesting choices. Some are things everyone will enjoy - like the filet with red wine sauce and mac & cheese. Some are a little different and aren't found in other restaurants - like the braised lamb shank.

We love the taste of Africa app, and I've enjoyed every soup I've had at Jiko. The desserts are good, but super special in my opinion and the wine list is awesome. The atmosphere is quite and dark. If its not disrupted by children who are crying, screaming, and running around (only happened to us once - just rude people who didn't care that they were effecting other people's meals) then it is relaxing and even kind of romantic.

I recommend that you give it a try

I always get the flatbreads for apps, the filet on mac-n-cheese, and usually the pistachio creme brulee. I try a different wine every time I go (3 times so far). I may try a different dish next time, just so I don't feel so locked in....but really, the filet on mac-n-cheese is to die for.

Having been 4 times without a descent meal, it's doubtful we'll go back. Everyone else seems to love it though.

Love Jiko!
It's a must-do every trip now. Their signature dish is the Oak-Grilled filet mignon and it's so good that it's the only thing I've gotten around to trying. The service is spectacular as well and the atmosphere offers a more calm, adult-oriented theme. It's a nice break from the crowds and noise in the parks.

My favorite item is off the menu now (lamb shank), so I opted to not go. I'm sure you will love it, but I'm just stubborn and was really let down my "much anticipated" lamb shank was gone.:guilty:

Drat!! The lamb shank was delish! I just checked the menu on allears and it is still listed on the revised menu dated 2/08. Ummm....but the short rib sounded pretty good...The creme brulee is DH's favorite!:goodvibes

The service has always been excellent and I like the subdued atmosphere. It sounds like a great way to end 2008. Enjoy your trip!!:hippie:

The short ribs are my favorite - yum yum

I thought they just changed the way the lamb was prepared - not take it off the menu altogether???

It is lamb chops now, and the portion is much smaller and well, I just don't want CHOPS! I LIKE chops, but I prefer the shank, it was rich and big and huge and heaven.....:guilty:

Stella3 I love your avatar! My Dh and I ate at his place in New York 4 years ago and it was lovely. My mouth waters just thinking of it.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm glad I made the ressie.

Oh yeah, Tony....he is the man.

Jiko is my all time favorite WDW restaurant. We go at least once a month. I am in love with the cheese plate, which current features goat and sheep cheeses. Hubby varies his appetizer, although the tamales are his favorite (they have a new samosa that he likes too). For dinner, I almost always get the halibut with extra sauce, while he varies between the shrimp curry and scallops. I like the lemon curd dessert with white chocolate biscotti...mmm! They serve a to-die-for bread and tandoori butter with every meal.

Service is usually excellent, although once we had the Waiter from Hell (he would just disappear for long periods...we heard another of his tables complaining to the manager). but thankfully that is not the norm.

I love all of the great reviews! We will be staying at AKL, and I was unsure about this restaurant, but it sounds awesome!

Is is OK for kiddos?

Depends on how well behaved your kids are :goodvibes It is a more subdued atmosphere. I did take a 2 1/2 yr old a few years ago and it was a not the most relaxed time. :confused3 He was a little noisy and he really stood out--so that meal was not particularly relaxed for us.

On the other hand, Boma is great for kids.

Does anyone know what is currently on the kids menu? Ive seen 2 differnet menus(one with hot dogs and one without) and I plan on taking a very picky kid in a few weeks. If they still have hot dogs Ill have no problem. ;)
