I was in universal 2 days ago and the ride was so cool we just had a bit of an audio dely and we complained to the worker and they let us ride again and go right to the front.
It is a dark ride with a couple of coaster elements. There's a mixture of sets and screens and you wear 3D glasses. You are in a vehicle like Dinosaur that moves in every direction.
It is thrilling. A bit more so than I expected. My 7 year old who's not very brave said it was scary but she loved it.
I'd say it's more of a 3D ride with a few roller coaster drops. The entire cart does a 180 as well.
It's a little hard to compare because this isn't a straight up track ride. The first drop was almost totally in the dark and "felt" like a Splash Mt drop. There is another drop where the 3D visual is down the side of a mountain and that wasn't quite so steep.
The 3D aspect changes the perception on the actual drop.
