Tell me about Dollar

Hi everyone! In playing around looking at car rental rates for my December trip, the best rate (OK at best) that I found was for Dollar rental. I have never rented from Dollar before. How has your experience been with Dollar? Are there any special 'gotchas' that I need to be aware of? Do they have cancellation fees?

I have used them many times at the Orlando and Tampa airport, with great success. I signed up for their membership program - I think it's called Dollar Express. While not as good as National's Emerald program, or even Alamo's QS, it will still save significant time when renting. You still go to the counter, but there is a special line. I remember the first time I used it with my DH. The regular line was very long and I told him to follow me and we went straight up to the counter in the 'special' line. DH has looked at me differently ever since. Guess all my internet research pays off sometimes.

I would not hesitate to rent from them again if it saved a substantial sum over National or Alamo.

I've used them too. I would not worry about renting from them. They are a large company just like Alamo or Enterprise etc.

I always go with who has the best price. However, I would never rent from a no-name company.

When we rent a car in Orlando, it's always Dollar and I've been happy with them. Dollar Express is free and speeds up the process a lot so I highly recommend that. And as for rates, there are several places to get discount codes so make sure to check for those. Dollar is always one of the better rates for us in Orlando.

Thanks everyone again! I booked Dollar tonight for my December trip and was able to get a mid-size car for my 11 night trip for under $400 with the Orlando MagicCard rate. Hopefully the rates will continue to come down but at least I was able to book something.
