Tell me about Dollar Express please

How exactly does Dollar Express work? Do we go to a counter inside the terminal or directly into the Dollar lot? Do we pick a car or is one assigned? Looking for info...any feedback is much appreciated! :3dglasses
 
Hi..I have been a member of Dollar Express since 2002, and have never had any problem with them. Here's how it works:

- You will go to the Dollar counter in MCO as usual, however, there is a specific line setup for Dollar Express members. If there are 5 people waiting in the regular line, but you are first in the express lane, you will be taken ahead of the others.

- You then take your sheet over to the garage as usual, but your vehicle should be closer to the front of the garage.

- If you're not happy with your selection as I have been on a couple of occasions (I reserved a minivan, but they gave me a regular wheelbase Caravan, instead of a Grand Caravan), I simply went back to the booth in the garage, and they were all too happy to switch it for me.

- Above and beyond that, you also get Dollar Express points which can get you upgrades, and other amenities.

- Best of all IT'S FREE!!
 
My family and I currently have a reservation with Dollar for December. The reservation is under my name. Can I join the Dollar Express club even though I already have a reservation? Also, when we go to pick up the car my DH will be using our credit card with his name on it because he will be the one driving. I will not be driving at all. Will this be allowed or do I need to cancel the reservation I have now and book one in his name?

I was able to do this... I had already made the reservation and then I when I received my member number, I e-mailed them and asked them to add my member number to my account and they were able to do it.

This is the way I understand it... someone correct me if I'm wrong.... The reservation has to be in the person's name who is driving. You could always add your husband's name as an extra driver, but you pay more per day. I also am kind of in this situation. I made the reservation in my name and we thought we'd add my DH name as an extra driver. But trying to cut costs, we inquired about switching the reservation from my name to DH name so he could just drive. They told me I'd have to make a new reservation, thus losing the awesome rate we had gotten on a convertible. So, it looks like I'm in the driver's seat for our trip, unless if we can do something different when we get there.
 

My husband does most of the driving, too. But I always make the reservation with my Dollar Express membership. We never have any trouble switching it to him, although I don't get my Southwest rapid rewards for making the reservation - they go to him. We also have the same credit card account, which may make things easier.
We're booked for a minivan for November 10-15th. I never thought about going back to the garage counter to switch vehicles if we aren't pleased with the one they give us. Thanks for that tip!
 
We DID have a problem in July, I had the dollar express membership in my name but wanted DH to be the driver.

The first clerk said we could not do that under my reservation, I would have to be the driver or pay for the second driver. This was contrary to what I had been told over the phone when I called Dollar. I insisted that I had been told otherwise and a second clerk had to get involved. It held up things a bit the Express line was not long so it worked out. It just took a lot longer because the second gal had a customer that she had to take care of first which ended up being a complicated transaction as well.

Hope you have better luck. I am going to set up an express account in my husband's name and use that if we use Dollar in the future.
 
Thanks for the info. Looks like I might be in a bit of a pickle! Guess I will have to call them and find out for sure.
