We have been in August and October. Two VERY different times of year to go! But this time we are trying a different time of year. What's the weather like in the first week of May? Was it too hot? A lot of rain? We just dont know what to expect! Thanks:)

Shhhh, but dont tell anyone. In the several times that I have been in early May, the weather is awesome. It is hot, but no humidity. Hot enough to enjoy the pools at the hotel. It is not soooo hot that you melt. It often cools enough in the evening that it is very pleasant. :woohoo:

They crowds have been lower at that time, allowing you to see and do more. You will run into some school trips, but they have never impacted our trip. We tend to stay on the monorail loop, so you wont see the school kids staying at the hotels.

The Flower and Garden Festival is winding down, but you will get to see all the awesome topiaries. There are many positives to going in May. I want to try October, but I am concerned about the heat and humidity.

We missed going this year, as my boys wanted to do another Disney cruise instead of a park trip. Can't wait to go back in May some year. If you go in May, good luck and enjoy the parks. :goodvibes

We've been in May and I thought the weather was just great. Hot/sunny, not humid and hardly any rain at all.

Downside would be a LOT of school trips. Honestly I was shocked at how many!! And they do that annoying thing where one teenager gets in line and then 20 kids turns up to "join their friend" - sooooo irritating.
I know Disney say they don't allow cutting but they don't stop the kids doing this.

But the weather is great, so if you can avoid the teenagers - it's a lovely time to go!!

Awesome! My mom was a little nervous about the heat. So great to know it won't be too hot to handle! And as for school trips, we'll be there for 11 or 12 days so hopefully if they do happen to get in our way we'll have the time to make up for it:)

We went this past May and I thought it was lovely. It was hot but it wasn't unbearable. Hot enough to use the pools, but cooled down enough in the evening to wear a light sweater. I'm the type of person that is very prone to heat headaches, no matter how hydrated I am, and I didn't get any the entire time we were there. It rained a little bit but it was fine. It was crowded because we were there the week after Memorial Day and before Gay Days started but we managed just fine.

We've been to WDW twice during May. It's fantastic. There are a few crowds, depending on which day of the week/time of day, but overall it was a wonderful time to be there. May also seems much less hot and humid to me, compared with our last trip there which was in September.

We just returned from our first May trip... Bulk of our stays have been in Aug, Sept, Oct area...

May was fantastic, weather ideal, hot, afternoon shower occasionally... Crowds manageable and decent....would not hesitate to go again in May... Go and enjoy... You're going to love it!

Ok, I live here and this past May was a rare and I state again, RARE May with lower humidity and milder temps. Usually May is hot enough that I have my central air on already. (any other FL people care to agree with me?)

This past May was lovely. Depending where you are coming from, it may seem hotter to you than you are expecting based on the posts I just read.

I live about an hour and a half due west of WDW and while May is really summer here, there is generally a large difference in the beginning of May to the end of May. Beginning of May the humidity is lower but it can be humid. End of May it's summer.

Crowds are ok. Not summer time but not spring break either. I just don't want you to expect lovely "spring" weather here anytime in May. It's a transitional month yes with lower humidity but it's still hot.

We went in mid-May this year (arrived on the 18th). It was hot. Everyday was pretty much in the mid 90s. May is also rainy season. Don't let that turn you against going in May, we all thought it was a great trip. Just plan ahead. We brought ponchos with us & had them in the bag. For the 1st 4 days we were there it thunderstormed every afternoon at 2PM for about 2 hours. Only once did we really get caught running to find a place to hide out. All other times we simply put the ponchos on if we needed to walk between rides or locations. It really wasn't a big deal. Most of the time we just found a store to go shopping, place to sit for a snack, etc. The benefit of it was also that many people would leave when the thunderstorms hit. So once the weather broke, there were way fewer people walking around or getting in line for rides.

Thank you for posting this question! We too are projecting a trip for this time of year and are very curious about the crowd levels and the weather.

Question answered:thumbsup2

I have been at the beginning of May twice and going again next year, I have found it to be hot but not crazy I think Im going to pass out hot. 2009 we didn't have any rain for a week, 2012 rain once in the afternoon for about 1/2 hour. There were crowds but it was not crazy.

We went in May this year, and it was awesome. We've been in June and July (dreadful heat and crowds, October, November, December, and March. I was kind of dreading crowds and heat; however, the weather was gorgeous (aside from one rainy day) and the crowds weren't too bad either. It was slightly more crowded on the weekends but that is to be expected.

Love May weather and crowds aren't bad if your not there for memorial weekend.

DD and i have been going at the beginning of may for about 8 years.
IMHO, it is the best time of year to visit :thumbsup2
little rain, lower humidity in general, comfortable temps (this year was a bit cooler - mid 70's, i prefer mid-80's at least:worried:). lower crowds and the F&GF are great (including 50% off most F&GF items:thumbsup2).

temps rise and crowds grow the later in may it gets, tho.

we've visited in every month from april thru late oct (no later as late oct got into 30's one year) - early may wins.
we still go every late sept/early oct for the F&WF and to meet up with friends, but expect - and get - rain and crowds.

Anyone have a clue why the hotels are filled up for the begining of May? Trying to do a ressie for POP (a host resort for Everest Challenge) and there isn't a room unless I book for a week and I can't take THAT much time off of work just yet.

I went late May last year and LOVED it. We stayed at CSR for 3 days. Did the F&G in the morning and then spent the rest of the day at the pool. :-)

Guess a lot of you folks have been extremely lucky with the weather. Southern girl here nor far from gulf, and let me tell you it can be very hot and humid already. Some years not as bad, but we see the heat and humidity even in April most years. Not as extreme as mid summer, but very uncomfortable non the less. ::yes::

If it is letting you book for more days then you need then do that and then afterwards just call back and reduce it down to just what you actually need. Sometimes Disney has the rooms available for a longer stay but they won't show available for a shorter stay so you just need to book the longer one and then go back and take the unnecessary days off.

So would shorts or capris be more appropriate? It's hard to pack. In Michigan our May can go from cool to hot...
