Tell me about Didj and Nintendo DS

DD4 just received a Leapster for her 4th birthday, and now DD8 (she'll be 9 in Feb.) wants one. Leapsters state that they are for ages 4-8, so it seems like a waste of $$ for DD8.

So, I started looking around and need more info on the Didj and Nintendo DS. I prefer something more educational (like the Leapster). I don't like that with the DS, they can "see" other people (I don't know if you can turn off this feature).

Anyway, as you can see, I don't know much (and if there is another handheld game thing that you prefer, please give me the info!), so anything would be great!

Thanks!

I just purchased the Diji for Christmas. My son played with one in Toyrus and loved it. I spent an hour setting the software up and this allows you to monitor his success and even include additional math, english and/or spelling to work on that is set to what they are working on in school. After setting it up, I played with the free program for about 30 minutes - it is set up for math.

I do know that it experienced problems right when it first was sent out; but I didn't have any problems with it.

I don't know much about the Didj, but my DS6 and DD4 each won a Nintendo DS a little while ago and they both enjoy them immensely. I don't mind the fact that it isn't educational as we use it as a toy and a reward for being good. Also, at 8 she might be too mature for the other systems.

I just got DS's for my 5 year old - I bought them before hearing about the Digi, and they're outgrowing their Leapsters. For a child your dd's age, I would definately get a DS - most kids get them around 1st grade here.

I have also been trying to find out info on the digj. DS is almost 6 and is getting 3 games for his leapster for christmas from family and I started wondering if we should just skip the games and get the digj. I am not interested in the DS as I want to keep it as educational as possible.

i too was debating didj vs. ds but for our to be 8 yo. he has the leapster now and enjoys it.
i was looking at the game selection for the didj and although i know they will come out with more, for now, there arent really any ones that are much different from his leapster games (he has alot of those).

we are going to buy him a ds for his 8th bday in january. i do like that leapfrog is more educational but the didj is not like the leapster in that aspect and has less learning built in. plus i looked around and saw there actually are quite a few "brain type" games for the ds.

the ds will grow more with my son than the didj. we basically use it for car trips/vacations only. for educational "games" at home we let him use the computer where there are links to preset sites we have set up.
