I was amazed when I was looking thru the Celebration real estate listings on the Orlando Sentinel website. $2 Million dollar homes??? Wow! I could not believe the prices.

Has anyone ever driven through Celebration? Can we drive through or is it gated? Can you stay there? Tell me all about it!!

:flower:

We just returned from WDW and spent some time in Celebration at the post office, Disney Liquidation Sale and just driving around oohing and aaahhing! It is absolutely gorgeous and easily accessible from WDW. It reminds me of Wisteria Lane on Desperate Housewives or Mayberry. We took lots of pics and toured some of the model homes, the modest homes sell for 400,000.00 and up. It's centered around Market Street and Celebration Hotel is adjacent to this area of shops and restaurants and theatre, you can find good deals on rooms at www.mousesavers.com and sometimes expedia. BTW I have lots of pics that I could email to you if interested, pm me. It is not gated. There are no restrictions on visiting.

It is a planned (not gated) community across from WDW, It is on any Florida map, and if you picture where I-4 and Rte. 192 intersect, there it is. Lots of beautiful homes, but I have read that EVERYTHING is planned by the Disney corporation- home style and color, what you can put in your gardens, where the schools and shops go. Some people think it's creepy, some think it's neat to live that close to DisneyWorld.

My aunt & uncle have a condo there. It's gorgeous & of course decorated only in Disney! It's a lovely town.

Sorry it took so long! I had to change the format on my pics and if you click on the below link there are several pics of Celebration.

It's a relatively recent kind of community layout based on New Urbanist theories. New Urbanism started in the mid-to-late '70s and started hitting its stride in the '90s. Another well-recognized town like it is SeaSide, FL. The basic idea is that all of your everyday functions (shopping, medical, schools, post office, entertainment, etc.) should be easily within walking or biking distance from your home, and each neighborhood is designed to embrace a sense of community.

It is a beautiful community and well worth the time to drive (or walk - as that's what it is more designed for) through. Prices tend to be higher than you might expect, as these kinds of communities tend to draw upper-middle class, very active people. Also, as it's a planned community, district zoning ordinances will tend to dictate what is acceptable.

We've been to Celebration a few times in the early 2000/2001 timeframe to walk around and tour the area. On our trip this coming May we wanted to go over for a morning just to walk around the city center and take in the lovely area. Is it possible to get from POFQ to Celebration on any Disney transportation? We didn't plan on renting a car this trip, but were going to use Magical Express :flower:

There isn't Disney Transportion to Celebration, but the Orlando Lynx buses do provide service. You can check their schedule on line. They service from DTD.
